Nurse Manager - Emergency Department (ED)
Full-Time | Days or Evenings Available | No Weekends
An established, high-acuity tertiary care hospital is seeking experienced Nurse Managers to lead operations within a busy Emergency Department. - Shift Start Time: 2:00 PM
About the Opportunity
The Emergency Department is a high-volume service line comprising:
- 41 Wall Beds
- 16 Hallway Treatment Spaces
- Approximately 35 FTEs
As Nurse Manager, you will provide operational, clinical, and strategic leadership for the department, ensuring the highest standards of patient care, staff engagement, regulatory compliance, and departmental performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, organise, direct, delegate, and evaluate Emergency Department services in support of organisational goals and patient care standards.
- Provide leadership and oversight for nursing personnel and multidisciplinary teams.
- Foster effective relationships with physicians, patients, staff, vendors, and key stakeholders.
- Collaborate with departmental and hospital leadership to ensure seamless care delivery and operational effectiveness.
- Support and maintain quality improvement initiatives and patient safety programs.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate departmental policies, procedures, and clinical practice standards.
- Monitor staffing, productivity, patient flow, and resource utilisation.
- Address operational, clinical, and patient care challenges in a timely and effective manner.
- Promote a culture of accountability, engagement, and continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications/Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) required.
- Master's degree or other advanced nursing/healthcare-related degree preferred.
Licensure & Certifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) licence.
- Basic Life Support (BLS).
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 6 months of hire.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 6 months of hire.
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) within 18 months.
- Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) or Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) certification within 18 months.
Experience
- Minimum five years of progressive nursing leadership or management experience.
- Previous experience managing staff, including supervisory responsibilities.
- Experience with:
- Budget preparation and financial stewardship
- Physician relationship management
- Operational leadership
- Patient care issue resolution
- Quality improvement initiatives
- Multidisciplinary team coordination
- Emergency Department leadership or clinical experience strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and perform effectively within a fast-paced environment.
