Position Summary

The Athletics Operations Student Assistant provides entry-level administrative and operational support to the Athletics Department. Working under staff supervision, students assist with the day-to-day coordination of athletics activities, including schedules, facilities, equipment, events, records, communications, and logistical arrangements. The role provides practical exposure to athletics administration, event operations, customer service, teamwork, and workplace professionalism while supporting coaches, student-athletes, staff, and external stakeholders.

Learn & Earn Responsibilities

Assist with the planning and execution of games, tournaments, practices, competitions, and athletics events.

Support event-day operations, including setup, registration, scheduling, communications, and breakdown.

Assist with equipment inventory, distribution, maintenance, organization, and tracking.

Help coordinate uniforms, supplies, credentials, event materials, and other operational requirements.

Provide routine administrative and logistical support to Athletics Department staff.

Communicate professionally with coaches, student-athletes, facilities staff, vendors, officials, schools, associations, and other stakeholders as directed.

Help identify operational issues and promptly escalate them to the appropriate supervisor.

Assist with schedules, records, communications, and other athletics administration tasks.

Perform other related athletics operations duties as assigned and within the scope of the student role.

Learn & Earn Eligibility

Currently enrolled at Roxbury Community College for the applicable placement period.

Meet RCC Learn & Earn eligibility requirements for the approved placement.

Maintain good academic standing and any enrollment requirements applicable to the placement.

Complete all required student-employment, onboarding, and payroll documentation before beginning work.

Work only the approved Learn & Earn schedule and duties assigned by the designated supervisor.

Required Qualifications

Currently enrolled RCC student in good academic standing and eligible for the approved funding source (Federal Work-Study or Learn & Earn).

No prior athletics employment experience or specialized coursework required.

Reliable, punctual, organized, and able to follow directions.

Strong interpersonal and customer-service skills.

Ability to work collaboratively with staff, student-athletes, and other student employees.

Ability to communicate professionally with internal and external stakeholders.

Willingness to learn athletics operations, event procedures, equipment processes, and College expectations.

Ability to work a flexible schedule based on athletics activities and academic commitments.

Funding & Scheduling Structure

2 Learn & Earn placement(s) are authorized for this role. Scheduling is based on the approved experiential-learning assignment, operational needs, and the student's academic commitments. RCC-funded placements are subject to applicable student-employment work-hour limits, with a maximum of 18.5 hours per week.

Supervision & Performance

The Athletics Operations Student Assistant reports to Albert Hayle or another designated Athletics Department supervisor. Students will receive role-specific training, regular supervision, feedback, and professional-development opportunities. Student employees must comply with RCC Student Employment policies, Athletics Department procedures, event and facility requirements, and professional conduct standards. Performance concerns will be addressed through RCC's progressive intervention process.

Advancement

Students who demonstrate strong performance, reliability, operational knowledge, initiative, and increasing independence may become candidates for future intermediate or advanced athletics, event, facility, or program-support positions when such opportunities are available.
