Regional Laboratory Manager - East Job Description

The Regional’s Laboratory Manager’s leads laboratory operations across multiple sites while directly supervising one site and managing Lab Supervisors. Duties include oversight of sourcing, formulation, and production; ensuring final goods are in stock, upholding quality control standards, managing inventory, ensuring regulatory compliance, and enhancing the overall efficiency and excellence of our laboratory operations within the region.

The Regional Laboratory Manager supports regional operations by providing technical guidance, resolving issues, ensuring compliance, and driving process improvements to maintain efficient and consistent laboratory operations.

Daily Duties (Primary Site):

Laboratory Oversight:

  • Manage day-to-day vape formulation and production, pre-roll operations, including scheduling and workflow coordination.
  • Uphold cleanliness, safety, and organization standards in the laboratory.
  • Collaborate with the National and Regional team to implement and refine SOPs to meet site specific regulatory requirements.
  • Review and appropriately file MBRs and Production Records.
  • Supervise the intake of raw materials, maintain documentation, and ensure adherence to documentation protocols.
  • Input necessary data into internal logging systems and track and trace systems as required.
  • Allocate and prepare raw materials for pre-roll production.

Quality Control:

  • Implement and monitor quality control measures to ensure accuracy and reliability of laboratory results.
  • Support the development and execution of quality assurance programs.
  • Conduct routine quality audits and address non-conformance issues.
  • Coordinate with appropriate teams to resolve equipment or facility issues.

Staff Training and Development:

  • Train and mentor laboratory staff in production standards, safety protocols, and regulatory compliance.
  • Evaluate staff performance and provide constructive feedback.
  • Cultivate a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.

Compliance and Reporting:

  • Ensure compliance with local and state regulations pertaining to SOPs, Master Batch Records, and required documentation.
  • Support compliance audits and regulatory inspections, addressing inquiries as needed.

Inventory Management:

  • Supervise inventory control processes, including tracking and procurement of laboratory supplies and materials.
  • Ensure proper storage and disposal of materials in accordance with regulations.
  • Manage the inventory of raw materials and maintain accurate documentation.

Primary Duties (Region)

Sourcing

  • Own sourcing for the region and procurement of all inputs to ensure consistent supply and avoid disruptions.
  • Monitor pricing and availability of inputs in region.
  • Support strategic purchasing initiatives such as multi-state agreements and reciprocity.
  • Ensure all relevant staff are trained on standards and specifications for inputs.

Testing Lab Relationships

  • Maintain direct relationships with all lab testing partners within the region, developing and maintaining strong relationships with third-party testing laboratories.
  • Provide guidance on testing expectations, result interpretation, and corrective actions when issues arise.
  • Work with National Lab Director and Regional Operations Manager to identify and utilize best options for lab within the region based on spec requirements, pricing, service, ETC.

Production Oversight & KPIs

  • Monitor production KPIs to identify efficiency opportunities and deficiencies.
  • Conduct audits of batch records, logs, and supporting documentation to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
  • Ensure production and inventory logs are updated accurately and timely.

Support for Lab Supervisors

  • Be readily available to Lab Supervisors for day-to-day guidance, technical support, and issue escalation.
  • Conduct regular touchpoints with each Lab Supervisor to identify production gaps and reinforce SOPs and best practices.

Reporting & Documentation

  • Review end-of-month reports from each lab for accuracy and completeness.
  • Ensure required reporting and documentation are completed on time.
  • Ensure each new product has the required documentation prior to release.

Regulatory & Compliance Oversight

  • Maintain familiarity with each state’s applicable regulations to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Partner with the National Director, and each of the East Region’s Lab Supervisor and Operations Supervisor to translate regulatory changes into clear operational actions, updated SOPs, and training as needed.

People & Talent Management – Lab Supervisors

  • Participate in recruiting, interviewing, and hiring recommendations.
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and performance input.
  • Support development planning and succession pipeline efforts.

Reporting Structure
The Regional Laboratory Manager reports to the National Lab Director and works closely with the Regional Operations Director and site leadership teams to support regional operational needs. This role has direct oversight of Lab Supervisors and partners with the National Standardization Manager to further develop and strengthen standardization practices across all labs.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • 3-5 years relevant cannabis experience
  • 3-5 years relevant leadership experience
  • Familiar with cannabis and the many forms it comes in (concentrates, trim, flower, etc)
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping.
  • Familiarity with laboratory procedures, safety protocols, and quality control standards.
  • Proficient in using laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Adherence to ethical standards and safety regulations.
  • Proficient in Google Sheets and basic algebra

Pay: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
