The responsibilities of the Principal Welding Engineer role are:
- Lead the development and rollout of robotic welding processes across international manufacturing locations.
- Own the strategy for welding technology and automation, ensuring alignment with wider business goals.
- Work closely with external partners, integrators and suppliers to evaluate and implement new solutions.
- Drive initiatives focused on improving productivity, reducing waste and enhancing product quality.
- Support production planning by ensuring welding capacity and processes meet operational demands.
- Promote standardization of welding processes across global sites including the US, China, Brazil and Mexico.
- Address complex technical challenges using structured problem solving and engineering expertise.
The skills and experience required for the Principal Welding Engineer role are:
- Degree qualified in Engineering or a related technical field.
- 5 years of project management experience in industrial automation, manufacturing or engineering environments.
- Proven exposure to robotic welding and automated production systems.
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector certification.
- Experience managing CAPEX projects and delivering process improvements.
- Solid understanding of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methods.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to influence across functions and locations.
