Role Overview:
The Merchandise Cost Analyst will support the Merchandising team by providing clear, data-driven insights into product costs, margins and overall profitability across jewelry collections. This role partners closely with accounting to ensure each product meets targeted cost and margin goals. This role report to the Senior Cost Analyst.
Key Responsibilities:
- Product Cost Analysis: Investigate and resolve item cost variances on purchase orders through detailed cost structure reviews, including reviewing all cost components of each product. Partner with Supply Chain team to align on priority product shipments requiring cost review. Identify root causes of cost variance and recommend or implement corrective actions to maintain accuracy and profitability targets.
- Cost Update Management: Collaborate effectively with vendors to validate cost updates. Provide updated cost information to the Merchandising team to support pricing decisions and margin analysis. Manage the item cost update process to ensure data accuracy and timeliness throughout the purchase order process.
- Data Integrity & Process Improvement: Maintain the accuracy and integrity of all cost structure data. Execute item data updates through a thorough process of identification, verification and validation. Partner with the IT department to drive process improvements that enhance the efficiency and accuracy of item cost updates.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Merchandising, Business, Finance, or a related field.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently.
- Advanced Excel and data analysis skills (experience with ERP or PLM systems preferred).
- Strong understanding of product cost drivers and margin management.
- Excellent communication skills — able to translate cost data into actionable insights for accounting and merchandising teams.
- Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple product lines simultaneously.
- Collaborative mindset with a passion for leveraging analytics to solve challenges and improve business outcomes.
