Position Summary:
In addition to primary responsibilities as a dental assistant, this role has additional responsibility for supervising, planning, and participating in dental assistant operations in the following areas: dispensary, sterilization, and student clinic. This role must have a complete understanding of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines pertaining to dental sterilization and clinical treatment areas.
Essential Functions:
- Monitors the day-to-day operations of all assigned areas.
- Provide first-line supervision of all staff working in assigned areas.
- Interview and onboard new employees.
- Complete annual evaluations.
- Develop and implement a monthly training program synchronized with initial 90-day evaluations.
- Create work schedules within the assigned area and serve as the primary backup when vacation and sick leave create staff shortages.
- Monitor the supply levels of the various dental dispensaries and sterilization areas within the dental school, establishing reorder levels and notifying the proper individuals when supplies need to be purchased from outside vendors.
- Perform semi-annual materials and equipment inventory to verify dental materials expiration dates, ensuring accountability for all dental cassettes, handpieces, and equipment.
- Monitor supply levels in both sterilization and dispensary areas and process requests for material replacement.
- Review spore test incubation results to ensure sterility compliance and monitor the instrument tracking system to ensure accountability for all dental cassettes, handpieces, and equipment.
- Regular attendance is an essential function of the job.
- Reliable and timely, with the expectation of 40 hours per week on site.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Graduation from high school or equivalent education.
Management experience preferred.
