Salary:  $85,000 - $90,000 annually, depending on experience & qualifications

Position Summary

The SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) Community Outreach Specialist supports Rosalind Franklin University Health Clinics’ commitment to providing coordinated, trauma-informed care to survivors of sexual assault. This position aligns with Illinois Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) and SANE standards and serves as a liaison between healthcare, advocacy, law enforcement, and community partners. The Specialist is responsible for education, outreach, partnership development, and program support to enhance awareness of forensic medical services and improve access to care, particularly for underserved populations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Licensed and certified to perform forensic medical evaluations and deliver treatment for sexual assault patients for all ages.
  • Conduct community education and outreach related to sexual assault, forensic medical examinations, trauma-informed care, and available resources.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary SART partners in accordance with Illinois SANE/SART guidelines and best practices.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with hospitals, advocacy organizations, law enforcement agencies, prosecutors, and community-based organizations.
  • Provide training and educational support to SANE nurses, SART members, students, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Develop, write, and distribute culturally responsive, trauma-informed educational and outreach materials.
  • Participate in public awareness initiatives, community events, and media-related outreach as appropriate.
  • Identify gaps in services and recommend strategies to strengthen SANE/SART coordination and survivor-centered care.
  • Track outreach activities and program outcomes; prepare reports for leadership, stakeholders, and grant funders.
  • Assist with grant-supported programming, including budget tracking, documentation, and compliance requirements.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support program, business, and patient needs.

Required Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred in Public Health, Social Work, Social Services, Nursing, Health Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in sexual assault advocacy, crisis intervention, community outreach, or related work.
  • Active RN IL license with no restrictions 
  • Active IL PA SANE Certification with goals to obtain National Certification
  • At least three (3) years of clinical experience in an outpatient or inpatient hospital environment 
  • Current BLS or ACLS certification


Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities


  • Knowledge of Illinois SANE/SART protocols, forensic medical examination processes, and trauma-informed care principles.
  • Strong public speaking, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and diverse populations.
  • Demonstrates empathy, professionalism, and cultural competence.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.

Typical Physical Demands & Working Conditions

  • Work may occur in a variety of settings, including academic medical clinics, hospitals, community organizations, government agencies, and outreach venues.
  • On call, evening or weekend hours may be required to support clinical, community education and events.
  • Selected candidate must have the mental and physical capabilities to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
