Position Summary:
St. Francis de Sales Cathedral School is seeking a passionate and dedicated 6th and 7th Grade Science Teacher to join our exceptional middle school faculty for the 2025-2026 school year. The ideal candidate will be a practicing Catholic with a strong understanding of scientific principles and a proven ability to engage and inspire young adolescent learners. This individual will be responsible for creating a dynamic and inquiry-based classroom environment where students develop a deep understanding of scientific concepts, cultivate critical thinking skills, and foster a lifelong curiosity about the natural world.
Responsibilities:
Develop and implement engaging, differentiated, and rigorous science lessons aligned with Diocesan and school curriculum standards for both 6th and 7th grade.
Foster a classroom environment that promotes active learning, scientific inquiry, collaboration, and a respect for scientific evidence.
Utilize a variety of hands-on activities, experiments, technology, and real-world applications to make science relevant and exciting.
Assess student progress regularly through formative and summative assessments, including laboratory reports, projects, tests, and class participation, providing timely and constructive feedback to students and parents.
Maintain accurate and organized records of student performance.
Communicate effectively and professionally with parents regarding student progress and classroom activities.
Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and support staff to ensure a cohesive and supportive learning environment within the middle school and the broader school community.
Actively participate in school-wide initiatives, faculty meetings, and professional development opportunities.
Uphold and promote the Catholic mission and values of St. Francis de Sales Cathedral School in all aspects of teaching and interactions.
Supervise students in various school settings, including but not limited to the classroom, science labs (if applicable), hallways, and potentially field trips.
Integrate technology effectively into science instruction and learning.
Promote scientific literacy and encourage students to explore STEM fields.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Science Education, a science discipline (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth Science), or a related field.
Valid Louisiana teaching certification with a science endorsement or eligibility for certification.
Strong knowledge of middle school science curriculum and best practices in science instruction, including inquiry-based learning.
Demonstrated ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
Experience in designing and implementing engaging laboratory activities and scientific investigations.
Excellent classroom management and organizational skills.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills.
Practicing Catholic in good standing is preferred.
Experience teaching middle school science (6th/7th grade) preferred.
Familiarity with educational technology and its integration into the science classroom.
