Job Overview
We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Fitter/Fabricator with extensive experience in ironwork, welding, and steel fabrication. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of producing high-quality metal products and structures, demonstrating expertise in reading and interpreting technical drawings, and possessing strong problem-solving skills. This role requires a detail-oriented individual who can work independently and as part of a team to meet project deadlines and maintain our high standards of quality and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret and work from technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to fabricate metal products and structures
- Perform various welding techniques (MIG, TIG, Stick) on different materials, including steel, stainless steel, and aluminum
- Cut, shape, and form metal components using a variety of tools and equipment such as shears, press brakes, and plasma cutters
- Assemble and fit fabricated metal sections and parts according to specifications
- Conduct quality control checks to ensure all fabricated items meet required standards and specifications
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to all safety protocols and regulations
- Operate and maintain various shop equipment, including overhead cranes, forklifts, and power tools
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other team members to resolve technical issues and improve production processes
- Mentor and train junior fabricators and apprentices, sharing knowledge and best practices
- Assist in the development and implementation of new fabrication techniques and processes
- Participate in project planning and estimation processes when required
- Ensure all work is completed in compliance with industry standards, local building codes, and company policies
Qualifications and Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or apprenticeship in metal fabrication preferred
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a fitter/fabricator in a manufacturing or industrial setting
- Proficiency in various welding techniques (MIG, TIG, Stick) with relevant certifications
- Strong knowledge of metallurgy and material properties
- Excellent blueprint reading and interpretation skills
- Proficient in the use of measuring tools and instruments (e.g., calipers, micrometers, tape measures)
- Experience with CAD software and CNC machinery is a plus
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and make sound decisions
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Physical ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) and stand for extended periods
- Willingness to work overtime and flexible shifts when required
