About The Role
Join Rockford Ball Screw as a hands-on operator in our production cell, where bar stock becomes precisely ground and roll threaded components. You will operate and care for roll thread and grinding equipment, follow proven procedures, and deliver to exacting tolerances—while building proficiency across additional machines as business needs evolve. This position reports directly to the Production Manager.
A Day in the Life
You arrive, review setup sheets, and load the correct dies and tooling. You grind bar stock to spec, prepare it for roll threading, and verify tolerances with precision instruments. You keep detailed records in the ERP system, move materials safely with cranes and forklifts, coordinate with maintenance to reduce downtime, and sustain a clean, safe work area through 5S. You flex to help other teams when needed—and you finish with final quality checks so every shipment meets company and customer standards.

What You Will Do
Manufacturing setting with frequent lifting of up to 50 lbs (and occasional lifts up to 75 lbs). Regular use of hands/fingers for adjustments and tool handling; moderate reaching, pushing, pulling, gripping, and grasping. Proper PPE is required, including safety glasses and steel-toe footwear.
Schedule
Full-time, typically Monday–Friday, about 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week. Final hours are set by management. Overtime, evening, and weekend work may occasionally be required to meet demand.
Compensation
Our current hiring pay range for this position is $19-28.50/an hour. This hiring pay range is based on several factors which vary based on position. These include labor markets and, in some instances, may include education, work experience, knowledge, skills and certifications.
In addition to this base pay, Rockford Ball Screw employees are eligible for a bonus. Depending on your position you may be categorized into different tiers in the quarterly or annual bonus plan. Currently, this position is classified as a Quarterly Bonus within the Individual Contributor tier.

What You Will Do
- Set up grind and roll equipment using setup sheets; load appropriate dies and tooling.
- Run and maintain machines; stage and load raw materials using lifts and overhead cranes.
- Grind bar stock to tight tolerances, preparing it for roll threading within a production cell.
- Perform in-process inspections using calipers, micrometers, and gauges to confirm tolerances.
- Record production data (machine performance, part quality, material usage) in the ERP system.
- Troubleshoot alongside maintenance to minimize equipment downtime.
- Follow safety protocols, wear PPE, and uphold 5S to keep work areas orderly.
- Handle and move raw and finished goods with overhead cranes and forklifts.
- Execute final QA checks to meet company and customer specifications.
- Support other departments as needed to maintain production flow.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Must be 18 years or older.
- 1–3 years operating large-scale roll threading machinery.
- High School Diploma/GED or significant relevant experience.
- Comfort with basic computer tasks.
- Skill with precision measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges).
