Sr. Manufacturing Engineer

Rock West Composites, Inc. has an exciting opportunity for a Sr. Manufacturing Engineer.

Rock West Composites, Inc. is an engineering and manufacturing company dedicated to providing innovative solutions for commercial and government customers. This position is located in our West Jordan, UT and reports to the Director of Engineering.

Position Summary:

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer leads the planning, development, implementation, and optimization of manufacturing methods for new and existing products, ensuring efficient use of materials, equipment, and personnel. With minimal supervision, this role defines and manages complex manufacturing processes from concept through production, ensuring compliance with customer, regulatory, and company standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Serve as the primary interface with Manufacturing and Program Managers, establishing strong communication channels and providing comprehensive program and task updates.
• Lead the development and oversight of EBOMs, MBOMs, work instructions, travelers, process specifications, and material selection to support and control high-value production manufacturing programs.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering technical growth and skill development.
• Oversee the creation of detailed part fabrication documentation to support manufacturing and ensure quality standards are met.
• Identify and drive strategic process improvements to enhance product quality, reduce cycle time, and minimize costs.
• Lead design and optimization activities for part and tool fabrication, contributing to scalable and efficient manufacturing solutions.
• Resolve complex technical challenges independently and in coordination with Program/Engineering management.
• Act as a primary liaison with customer engineering teams and suppliers to troubleshoot and resolve high-level technical issues.
• Manage red lining on shop floor parts, oversee engineering changes, and address MRB conditions with corrective actions in line with quality standards.
• Ensure full compliance with all safety regulations and foster a safe and organized work environment aligned with the company’s FOD program.
• Conduct high-level production planning, including staffing, production time, and cost estimation, providing critical data to support operational decisions.
• Collaborate closely with other manufacturing departments to design, coordinate, and implement targeted training programs for employees, ensuring alignment with company standards and best practices.
  
  
  

NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in manufacturing or mechanical engineering (aerospace preferred); skilled in Microsoft Office Suite and CAD/CAM software, particularly SolidWorks; adept at blueprint reading, CAD model interrogation, and GD&T.
• Minimum 12 years in composite manufacturing engineering with experience in materials and processes, including lay-up, wet-layup, autoclave, RTM, and compression molding.
• At least 5 years in composite part fabrication, machining, bonding, and assembly.
• Working knowledge of AS9100 quality management systems; able to adhere to corporate Quality Management Systems daily.
• Proficient in assembling/disassembling parts and assemblies; experienced with contact and noncontact inspection methods and data acquisition systems to monitor temperature, vacuum, and pressure.
• Skilled in handling multiple programs with changing priorities, setting goals, and following tasks through to completion; experience in preparing bids and proposals.
• Highly organized, self-motivated, detail-oriented, and accurate, with strong job costing knowledge and proposal generation abilities.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills to collaborate effectively across departments.

Compensation:

The compensation range for this position falls within $115,000 and $140,000. The final compensation will be determined based on experience, skillset, and other factors permitted by law.
