Position Overview:
Robert Half is seeking a detail-oriented and reliable General Accountant to support the financial operations of a local housing authority. This role will assist with daily accounting functions, ensure accurate reporting, and support compliance with local, state, and federal guidelines. Experience in a housing authority or public sector environment is a plus but not required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform general accounting duties including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close processes.
- Maintain accurate financial records and support preparation of financial statements and internal reports.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, grant tracking, and audit preparation.
- Review transactions for accuracy and ensure compliance with established policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to resolve accounting issues and support operational needs.
- Contribute to process improvements and support implementation of financial best practices.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required
- Master’s degree or CPA a strong plus.
- Previous experience within a housing authority or public sector environment preferred.
- Experience with accounting software such as Tenmast, Yardi, SACS, or Lindsey is highly beneficial.
- Strong Excel skills required (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, basic analysis).
- Strong communication and people skills; able to work effectively with internal staff, leadership, and external stakeholders.
- High attention to detail, strong organization, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
Salary : $55,000 - $60,000
