Controller (Plant)

About the Role

A manufacturing company is seeking an experienced Plant Controller to join its leadership team. This role partners closely with plant management to drive financial performance, ensure compliance, and provide meaningful insights that support operational excellence. The Plant Controller will oversee plant-level financial reporting, cost control, and budgeting while supporting strategic decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead monthly and annual financial close processes and support external audits.
• Analyze manufacturing costs, variances, and process changes to assess impact on production.
• Provide monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting on standard vs. actual costs.
• Develop and implement processes to monitor and control site spending.
• Track performance against budgets and forecasts, recommending corrective actions as needed.
• Oversee capital expenditure analysis and justification.
• Manage inventory analysis, including cycle counts, obsolete/slow-moving inventory, and margin reviews.
• Collaborate with production planners to resolve order issues and drive variance improvements.
• Lead cost-reduction initiatives and make vs. buy analyses.
• Prepare and present financial information to senior management.
• Supervise and mentor a Plant Financial Analyst.

• SALARY RANGE: $175,000-$200,000

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or MBA preferred).
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and cost accounting principles.
• Experience in a manufacturing finance or accounting role, preferably at the plant level.
• Proficiency in ERP systems (experience with SAP a plus) and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to lead process improvements and support operational efficiencies.

Work Environment

This role is primarily office-based with regular interaction on the plant floor. Some exposure to typical manufacturing conditions (such as noise, dust, or temperature fluctuations) may occur. Appropriate safety equipment is provided as needed.
