Position Overview
The Plumbing Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for plumbing construction projects across single-family, multifamily, and commercial developments. This role supports preconstruction efforts by analyzing plans, performing detailed takeoffs, and coordinating with internal teams, vendors, and subcontractors to develop complete and cost-effective bids.
The Estimator plays a key role in supporting projects that integrate plumbing, HVAC, and fire protection systems under one coordinated scope, helping streamline delivery and improve efficiency for builders.
Key Responsibilities
- Review construction drawings, specifications, and bid documents to determine plumbing scope and requirements.
- Perform detailed material, labor, and equipment takeoffs for plumbing systems including domestic water, sanitary, and storm systems.
- Prepare conceptual, schematic, and final estimates based on project phase and design development.
- Solicit, review, and level subcontractor and supplier quotes to ensure complete scope coverage.
- Identify scope gaps, overlaps, and potential cost risks within project documents.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field teams to validate constructability and execution strategies.
- Provide value engineering solutions to optimize cost and improve project efficiency.
- Assist in preparing bid proposals, budgets, and scope summaries.
- Maintain organized estimate files, cost databases, and historical pricing information.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site walks, and coordination meetings as needed.
- Support project turnover to operations teams by ensuring scope clarity and budget alignment.
Qualifications
- 5–10 years of experience estimating plumbing construction projects.
- Experience working for a plumbing contractor, mechanical contractor, or general contractor.
- Strong understanding of plumbing systems including water distribution, drainage, and related components.
- Experience estimating projects in residential (single-family & multifamily) and/or commercial construction.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and plumbing plans.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to coordinate across teams and stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working on high-volume residential or tract home construction projects.
- Familiarity with integrated systems including plumbing, HVAC, and fire protection.
- Proficiency with estimating and takeoff tools such as Bluebeam, Trimble, FastPIPE, or similar software.
- Knowledge of local plumbing codes, standards, and construction practices.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
