Position Overview
The Assistant Superintendent supports the Superintendent in managing day-to-day field operations for multifamily and commercial construction projects throughout the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) region. This role plays a key part in ensuring projects are executed safely, on schedule, and in accordance with plans and specifications.
The Assistant Superintendent works closely with subcontractors, field teams, and project management to coordinate activities, track progress, and maintain quality standards on active job sites. This position is ideal for a driven field professional looking to grow into a lead Superintendent role.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in overseeing daily jobsite operations for multifamily and commercial construction projects.
- Coordinate subcontractors, vendors, and field personnel to maintain project schedules.
- Support the development and execution of short-term look-ahead schedules.
- Monitor jobsite safety and help enforce OSHA and company safety standards.
- Ensure work is performed in accordance with project plans, specifications, and quality requirements.
- Conduct site walks to track progress, identify issues, and support field coordination.
- Assist with scheduling inspections and coordinating with local authorities.
- Maintain daily reports, logs, and jobsite documentation.
- Help manage material deliveries, staging, and jobsite logistics.
- Identify and escalate field issues to the Superintendent or Project Manager.
- Support punch list completion and project closeout activities.
- Participate in jobsite meetings and maintain communication with project teams.
Qualifications
- 5–10 years of experience working in field operations for a general contractor.
- Experience supporting multifamily and/or commercial construction projects.
- Experience working within the DMV market is preferred.
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing, scheduling, and subcontractor coordination.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced jobsite environment and manage multiple priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working on ground-up multifamily, mixed-use, or commercial projects.
- Familiarity with local building codes and inspection processes within the DMV region.
- OSHA 30 certification or equivalent safety training.
- Experience with construction management tools such as Procore, Bluebeam, or scheduling software.
