Position Overview
The Mechanical / Piping CAD Designer / Drafter is responsible for developing detailed construction drawings and layouts for mechanical and piping systems across public works and commercial design projects. This role supports engineers and project teams by translating concepts, sketches, and technical requirements into accurate, code-compliant design documents.
The ideal candidate has strong experience in AutoCAD-based drafting, a solid understanding of mechanical and piping systems, and the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to support projects from design through construction.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed mechanical and piping construction drawings, including plans, sections, and system layouts.
- Develop drawings based on engineer direction, sketches, redlines, and technical notes.
- Utilize AutoCAD (2020 or newer) to produce accurate and coordinated design documents.
- Assist in the design and layout of piping systems, HVAC systems, and related mechanical components.
- Coordinate drawings with architectural, structural, and other MEP disciplines.
- Revise drawings and incorporate feedback from engineers and project teams.
- Ensure drawings meet project specifications, codes, and industry standards.
- Maintain organized drawing files and adhere to company drafting standards.
- Support project teams during design development and construction documentation phases.
- Communicate effectively with engineers, architects, and other stakeholders to ensure design accuracy.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical or piping design/drafting.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD (2020 or newer preferred).
- Experience creating construction plan and detail drawings.
- Strong understanding of mechanical and piping systems and drafting practices.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and sketches.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with engineers, architects, and project teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.
- Experience with MEP systems (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) is a plus.
- Familiarity with public works or municipal infrastructure projects.
- Experience supporting projects through multiple phases including design development and construction documentation.
