Position Overview
The CNC Machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, and machining complex precision components using advanced multi-axis CNC equipment. This role supports the production of high-precision parts used in aerospace, defense, and space applications, requiring a strong understanding of machining processes, tight tolerances, and complex geometries.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with 3, 4, and 5-axis CNC machines, and is capable of working with a variety of materials while maintaining strict quality and performance standards in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate 5-axis CNC mills and machining centers to produce precision components.
- Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications to ensure accurate machining.
- Perform complex machining operations on ferrous and non-ferrous materials including aluminum, stainless steel, and specialty alloys.
- Execute multi-operation machining processes, including roughing, finishing, and tight-tolerance work.
- Monitor machine performance and adjust offsets, feeds, and speeds as needed to maintain quality.
- Perform in-process inspections using precision measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges).
- Ensure parts meet strict quality and tolerance requirements for aerospace applications.
- Collaborate with programmers, engineers, and quality teams to optimize machining processes.
- Maintain clean and organized work areas while following all safety protocols.
- Troubleshoot machining issues and recommend process improvements.
- Support production schedules and meet deadlines for high-priority projects.
Qualifications
- 5 years of experience operating CNC machining equipment, with strong experience in 5-axis machining.
- Experience working in aerospace, defense, or precision manufacturing environments.
- Strong understanding of multi-axis machining processes and toolpath strategies.
- Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and GD&T.
- Experience machining large and complex components using multi-axis equipment.
- Strong knowledge of cutting tools, materials, and machining techniques.
- Ability to work independently and make adjustments to improve part quality and efficiency.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with CAM software and editing programs at the machine.
- Familiarity with large-scale machining, including horizontal mills or boring mills.
- Experience working with tight-tolerance aerospace components.
- Knowledge of AS9100, ISO 9001, or similar quality standards.
- Ability to operate cranes or material handling equipment.
