Summary
A growing, mission-driven construction company is seeking an HR Manager to own and lead the full human resources function. This is not a support role, this person will be the HR department, partnering directly with leadership to build and refine people operations as the company scales. Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary HR leader and strategic partner to company leadership
- Build and manage full-cycle recruiting pipelines for field, office, and leadership positions
- Lead onboarding programs that set new hires up for success from day one
- Own all benefits administration, open enrollment, and carrier relationships
- Manage complex employee relations matters, investigations, and disciplinary processes
- Administer and ensure compliance across FMLA, CFRA, ADA, and other leave programs
- Lead HRIS transition from ADP to BambooHR and ongoing platform management
- Develop, maintain, and communicate company HR policies and employee handbook
- Drive performance management processes and provide coaching to managers
- Oversee workers compensation programs and coordinate with carriers and legal as needed
- Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local employment regulations
- Maintain HR recordkeeping, reporting, and audit readiness
- Identify training needs and coordinate internal and external training programs
- Manage offboarding, terminations, and separation agreements
- Own compensation administration and support compensation benchmarking and structure
Requirements
- 7 years of progressive HR experience with at least 2 years in a manager or lead HR role
- Deep knowledge of California employment law including FMLA, CFRA, ADA, and wage and hour requirements
- Proven ability to operate independently and own the HR function without significant infrastructure
- Experience managing HRIS platforms; ADP experience required, BambooHR a plus
- Construction, contractor, or project-based industry experience strongly preferred
- Strong judgment, discretion, and ability to navigate sensitive situations
- PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification preferred
- Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred
