Position Summary:
We are representing a union-signatory general contractor with over two decades of expertise in heavy civil infrastructure and mechanical systems, actively seeking a skilled Estimator to support continued growth across a wide range of public and private projects.
This is an opportunity to join a builder that self-performs flatwork, foundations, concrete, and masonry, while subcontracting structural steel and fencing. You’ll play a key role in producing competitive and accurate bids for site development, wet utility, and mechanical scopes—including pump stations, lift stations, and water infrastructure.
Ideal candidates will have a background estimating public works, mechanical utility, or civil concrete projects and enjoy collaborating with field operations and preconstruction leadership to secure profitable, well-executed work.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare detailed cost estimates from conceptual design through final bid
Perform quantity takeoffs for civil, structural, and mechanical scopes
Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes
Analyze drawings, specs, and addenda to identify scope and risk
Participate in pre-bid meetings, site walks, and proposal strategy sessions
Coordinate internally with operations to validate constructability and production rates
Identify value engineering options and cost-saving opportunities
Maintain historical cost data and help refine estimating systems and databases
Support project handoff to operations, including scope reviews and buyout
Project Types Include:
Site development, athletic fields, and park improvement projects
Wet utilities – water, sewer, storm drain
Concrete flatwork, sidewalks, retaining/structure walls
Mechanical – pump stations, lift stations, water treatment scopes
Public infrastructure, R&R street projects, and select building foundations
Qualifications:
3 years of estimating experience in heavy civil, mechanical, or public works construction
Solid understanding of self-perform concrete, utility, or mechanical scopes
Ability to interpret construction documents, specs, and addenda accurately
Strong proficiency in Excel; experience with estimating software a plus (HCSS, On-Screen Takeoff, etc.)
Familiarity with union labor, prevailing wage, and public bidding requirements
Ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously and work under tight deadlines
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Bonus if background includes field experience or operations
