Position Overview
The Assistant Superintendent supports the successful execution of commercial construction projects by assisting with daily field operations, subcontractor coordination, scheduling, and quality control. This role works closely with the Superintendent and Project Management team to help ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and according to project plans and specifications.
Projects may include education, civic, office, retail, hospitality, healthcare, tenant improvement, and commercial developments, often involving complex coordination, occupied environments, and fast-paced construction schedules.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Superintendent with day-to-day field operations on commercial construction projects.
- Support coordination of subcontractors, vendors, and field personnel to maintain schedule and productivity.
- Help manage short-term schedules and look-ahead planning activities.
- Assist with maintaining jobsite safety and enforcing OSHA and company safety standards.
- Review construction drawings and specifications to support upcoming work and identify potential conflicts.
- Coordinate inspections, deliveries, and material staging to support field operations.
- Track project progress, punch list items, and quality control issues.
- Participate in daily huddles, subcontractor meetings, and project coordination meetings.
- Maintain daily reports, field documentation, and project logs.
- Support project closeout activities including punch lists and final inspections.
- Assist with coordination in occupied campuses, public environments, or phased construction projects when required.
Qualifications
- 3β7 years of experience in construction, preferably in a field leadership role with a general contractor.
- Experience supporting commercial construction projects including ground-up or renovations.
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing, scheduling, and subcontractor coordination.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work in fast-paced construction environments and manage multiple priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working on education, civic, healthcare, hospitality, or commercial office projects.
- Familiarity with delivery methods such as Design-Build, Construction Management, or negotiated work.
- Proficiency with construction management tools such as Procore, Bluebeam, or scheduling software.
- OSHA 30 certification or equivalent safety training preferred.
