We are looking for a dedicated Grounds Worker in Charlottesville Virginia 22902 with $15.00/hr pay for a 3 month contract, temp role. You will be responsible for providing overall grounds maintenance and support services, including burial preparation, landscaping, and memorial installation. This role plays an important part in maintaining a clean, respectful, and well-kept environment while supporting burial services. The ideal candidate is dependable, physically capable, and comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions. Must have minimum of 1-2 years related experience in grounds keeping, must have valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record and ability to operate hand tools and mechanical equipment safely and effectively – APPLY NOW!
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week (Must be open to weekends as needed; additional hours may be required based on business needs)
Dress Code: Clean outdoor work attire appropriate for weather conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with opening and closing graves for burials, entombments, and inurnments
- Operate landscaping equipment such as mowers, weed eaters, and blowers
- Dig graves, place headstones, haul dirt, and set up and break down gravesites
- Install burial containers, foundations, memorials, and grave markers
- Complete work orders related to grave and marker maintenance
- Maintain burial areas, including 25-foot radius preparation, ensuring cleanliness and presentation
- Fill, tamp, seed, or sod graves after services
- Operate hand tools and mechanical equipment including tractors, dump trucks, and backhoes
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work environment
- Communicate effectively with team members, contractors, and client families
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management
What We’re Looking For:
- Minimum of 1-2 years related experience in grounds keeping.
- Must have valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
- Ability to operate hand tools and mechanical equipment safely and effectively
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks
- Basic measuring skills using tools such as tape measures or yardsticks
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in a team environment
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work extended hours when needed
