Job Title: Director of Sports and Fitness

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Status: Hourly (full time)

Position Summary:

To provide service to all youth and adults of our community through quality athletic and fitness programs to build healthy spirit, mind, and body. The Director of Sports and Fitness will incorporate caring honesty, respect, and responsibility into all aspects of the program areas to ensure the development of the youth, increased healthy living, and inspired social responsibility. Significant responsibilities of developing a positive welcoming and nurturing atmosphere to ensure that participants are safe, secure, having fun, and developing skills that will help them become successful adults.

Essential Functions:

1. Responsible for planning, preparing, and delivering youth or adults current sports programs with building for expansion:

a) Includes flyer and brochure development

b) Flyer and program material distribution through schools, day cares, and other venues (i.e. newspaper, radio, ect.)

c) Recruiting and registering students for Y programs through established relationships

d) Creating, recruiting and promoting adult fitness or sports programming.

e) Work with the Executive Director to secure sponsorships and other financial means necessary for the operation of the programs

f) Create games and practice schedules

g) Hire support staff (referees and support staff)

2. Responsible for developing strong volunteer participation through recruiting, training, supervising, and evaluating volunteers for quality programs.

a) Includes supervising practices, games, volunteers, making schedules.

b) Conducting coach training sessions

c) Creating and conducting an evaluation method of our sports programming

4. Develop and implement new programs into the YMCA and work with key partners to grow our Sports and Fitness programming.

5. Assist with development pf special YMCA family and youth events and miscellaneous special events as it relates to program development, public relations, and membership development.

6. Manage and promote fitness programming for adults and youth.
--Hire and manage fitness instructors
--Work with Operations Manager on equipment needs, improvements and purchases

7. Work with the Executive Director or Business Manager on budgeting management

8. Help ensure quality control standards and participants’ safety.

9. Follow association financial procedures, including purchasing procedures.

10. Responsible for purchase, maintenance, and use of department equipment.

11. Maintain a professional demeanor and follow professional expectations of the YMCA.

12. Build relationships with Richmond School, Union County Schools, Northeastern Schools, and Centerville Schools and community partners.

13. Participation in training and meetings as scheduled by the Y leadership team.

14. Additional tasks assigned.

Qualifications:

1. High school diploma is required. Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.

2. Must be at least 21 years of age.

3. Previous experience in youth development and/or recreation or other related fields of experience is preferred.

4. History of event planning, sports management or adult fitness.

5. Experience with personnel/volunteer management.

5. Demonstrates success in an independent work environment.

6. CPR and First Aid are preferred.

7. Efficient in technology and Microsoft Products.

Other Information:

The Director of Sports and Fitness should have strong people skills, organizational and administrative skills, including program development, supervision of staff and volunteers, financial development and member service. The Director will develop and implement new programs into the YMCA during the course of his/her employment. Must maintain professionalism and have strong communication skills. Must believe the YMCA’s philosophy and mission and be willing to teach, model, and implement character development values. Must be flexible and maintain a positive attitude. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds. Must possess valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation. Because of the nature of family and community services that we serve, normal hours of operations include weekends and evenings. At times it may be necessary to change your hours to fit the needs of members and program requirements.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $39,000.00 - $41,000.00 per year
