Description of the Role

Richmond Body Works is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Paint Prepper to join our collision repair team.

The Paint Prepper plays a critical role in the refinishing process by properly preparing vehicles and panels for paint. This position works closely with the Lead Painter, body technicians, and production team to ensure vehicles are prepared correctly, efficiently, and ready for high-quality refinishing.

The ideal candidate takes pride in their work, has strong attention to detail, maintains a sense of urgency, and understands the importance of quality and teamwork.

Previous collision repair or paint preparation experience is preferred, but we are willing to train the right motivated individual.

Responsibilities

• Prepare vehicles and replacement panels for refinishing
• Sand, featheredge, and prepare repaired and replacement panels for primer, sealer, and paint
• Mask and protect vehicles prior to refinishing
• Apply primer, sealer, and other approved materials as directed
• Assist with proper surface cleaning and preparation before painting
• Ensure panels and vehicles are properly prepared and paint-ready before entering the paint booth
• Identify preparation issues and communicate concerns to the Lead Painter, technician, or production team
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
• Assist the painter and paint department with maintaining an efficient workflow
• Help keep vehicles moving through the paint process with a strong sense of urgency
• Follow company procedures, paint manufacturer recommendations, and safety guidelines
• Work closely with painters, technicians, estimators, and other team members to ensure repairs are completed efficiently and correctly

Requirements

• Previous automotive paint preparation or collision repair experience preferred
• Knowledge of sanding, masking, priming, and surface preparation is preferred
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to follow instructions and established repair procedures
• Highly organized and dependable
• Strong work ethic and positive attitude
• Sense of urgency and ability to work efficiently
• Ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment
• Willingness to learn and develop new skills
• Ability to communicate effectively with team members
• Ability to lift, bend, kneel, squat, and perform the physical duties required in a collision repair environment
• Valid driver's license preferred
