The Federal Chief of Staff is responsible for driving the maturity, strategic execution, and growth enablement of RGP’s Federal practice. This role serves as a force multiplier to the Public Sector Lead, translating vision into execution, building the operational backbone of the practice, and ensuring alignment across growth, delivery, and compliance functions. A key focus of this role is establishing and scaling the infrastructure required to transition and mature the practice into a prime contractor, strengthening contract management, federal compliance, and delivery rigor while enabling sustainable market growth.

Base Pay Range: $218,000 - $250,000
Other Compensation: Incentive Compensation

What you will work on

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the Public Sector Lead, helping prioritize, sequence, and operationalize strategic initiatives.
  • Translate growth strategy into executable plans across portfolio, accounts, and pursuits.
  • Drive initiatives that transition the practice from a subcontractor model to a prime contractor capability.
  • Establish and manage operating rhythms (e.g., leadership cadences, QBRs, pipeline reviews) to ensure execution discipline.
  • Build and scale business processes, tools, and performance frameworks (KPIs, dashboards) to support growth and visibility.
  • Lead the development of contract management practices, including negotiation, execution, and lifecycle oversight.
  • Drive alignment across Growth, Delivery, Operations, and Executive Leadership.
  • Lead the stand up and maturation of compliant contractor business systems aligned to DFARS requirements (e.g., accounting, estimating, purchasing).
  • Drive audit readiness and compliance across FAR, DFARS, CMMC, and related federal requirements.
  • Establish and oversee Facility Clearance (FCL), personnel clearance (PCL) strategy, insider threat program, and OCI processes.
  • Partner with growth and capture teams to align operational capabilities with pipeline priorities and pursuit strategies.
  • Support proposal development, capture planning, and go-to-market efforts for federal opportunities.
  • Enable readiness for prime contract vehicles (e.g., GWACs, IDIQs, BPAs) and support on-ramp strategies.
  • Ensure operational and compliance readiness to execute newly awarded work at scale.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives across growth, delivery, finance, HR, legal, and marketing.
  • Oversee the Federal Operations Manager and scale the operations function to support a growing practice.
  • Align day-to-day operations (pursuits, contract startup, delivery) with strategic priorities.
  • Develop executive communications, presentations, and briefings for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Prepare the Federal Chief Growth Officer for key engagements and leadership interactions.
  • Support workforce planning, organizational design, and capability development within the Federal practice.
  • Identify opportunities to improve team effectiveness, processes, and collaboration.
  • Foster a high-performance culture grounded in accountability, alignment, and delivery excellence.

What you will bring

















































































































































  • Undergraduate degree or higher is required.
  • 15 years of experience establishing, building, and managing Federal practice operations.
  • Successful prior experience transitioning a Federal practice from a subcontractor model to a prime contractor capability.
  • Demonstrated experience in the following: Development of contract management practices; Implementation of compliant contractor business systems aligned to DFARS requirements; Establishment of audit standards and clearance processes.
  • Understanding of the Federal acquisition life cycle.
  • Executive-level written and verbal communication skills with a high level of professionalism and follow-through.
  • Must be based in the Greater Washington, DC area.
  • Willingness to travel to client and internal locations as needed.
