Position Summary
The Material Handler / Forklift Operator is responsible for safely operating forklifts and industrial equipment to move, load, and stack materials throughout the mill, warehouse, and log yard. This role plays a critical part in maintaining production flow, safety standards, and overall operational efficiency.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Operate forklifts, industrial trucks, or tractors to transport materials between loading, processing, and storage areas
Load, unload, stack, and unstack materials using lifting devices
Perform routine equipment maintenance, including cleaning, lubricating, fueling, or battery charging
Identify, stop, and report equipment malfunctions or jams to supervision
Assist in clearing jams and resetting equipment when necessary
Maintain a clean, organized, and debris-free work area
Participate in action planning and continuous improvement initiatives
Follow all operational procedures and assist with other duties as assigned by supervision
Skills & Qualifications
Ability to perform physically demanding work throughout the shift
Strong understanding of following written and verbal instructions
Ability to work independently with limited supervision
Effective communication skills for reporting issues and coordinating with team members
Basic understanding of machinery, mechanical components, and industrial environments
Reliable attendance and ability to remain on task to meet production goals
Team-oriented mindset with a strong work ethic
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand, walk, and climb for extended periods
Frequent bending, stooping, twisting, reaching, and stretching
Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
Comfortable working around loud equipment
Ability to work at heights over 4 feet while wearing a harness
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds throughout the work shift
Safety Expectations
Follow all company and department-specific safety policies and procedures
Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, reflective wear, and other required gear
Immediately report unsafe conditions or malfunctioning equipment to supervision
Use lockout/tagout procedures when required
Visually inspect equipment and work areas prior to operation
Use proper lifting techniques
Never approach or service equipment while in motion
