Position Summary
The Industrial Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems and equipment throughout the sawmill. This role supports production and maintenance operations by ensuring electrical systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable codes and standards.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Install, maintain, and repair electrical equipment, components, and systems, including control panels and motor controls
Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on electrical systems and equipment
Inspect, test, and diagnose electrical components to identify defects or repair needs
Troubleshoot electrical issues using appropriate testing devices and diagnostic tools
Install, replace, or modify machine components and electrical attachments according to production specifications
Reassemble machines and equipment following maintenance or repair work
Start and observe machines to verify proper electrical and mechanical operation
Read and follow blueprints, schematics, specifications, and verbal instructions
Plan and install electrical wiring, conduit, and cable systems, including measuring, cutting, stripping, splicing, and soldering
Connect wiring and cables to electrical service panels, fixtures, motors, and machinery
Perform basic adjustments and replace defective electrical or electronic components
Collaborate with maintenance personnel to repair, move, or install equipment
Track labor time and repair parts using work orders and the maintenance management system
Participate in action planning and continuous improvement initiatives
Perform all other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Additional Duties
Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area
Assist with mill shutdowns, startups, and special maintenance projects as needed
Organizational Relationships
Reports directly to the Maintenance Supervisor or Maintenance Manager
Works closely with maintenance mechanics, millwrights, and production teams
Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED preferred
Minimum of 3 years of industrial maintenance experience
Minimum of 3 years of industrial electrician experience
Strong working knowledge of electrical systems, industrial equipment, and hand tools
Knowledge of national, state, and local electrical codes and regulations
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical documentation
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Ability to perform physical tasks including bending, stretching, climbing, and lifting
Ability to monitor gauges, indicators, and equipment operation
Strong teamwork, communication, and decision-making skills
Solid reasoning and basic mathematical skills
Safety Responsibilities
Follow all area- and machine-specific safety regulations
Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hardhat, safety glasses, and hearing protection
Do not enter restricted areas without authorization
Immediately report unsafe or malfunctioning equipment to a supervisor
Request assistance when tasks exceed individual knowledge or ability
Inspect equipment and work areas prior to operation
Eliminate unsafe conditions when possible
Follow standard lockout/tagout procedures when required
Use proper lifting techniques, lifting with legs—not the back
Never approach a saw while it is running
Follow all company safety policies and procedures
