Summary of Position:
The Controls & Mechatronics Technician will handle the installation, maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of a variety of mechanical and electrical systems. You will also be leading system and equipment upgrades, while working directly with vendors to improve the reliability and useful life of the equipment.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Install, maintain, calibrate and trouble shoot a variety of greenhouse, and packaging systems used in the production of leafy greens
- Utilize Fiix to maintain correct logs of all routine maintenance, upgrades, tests, and repairs
- Perform both time-based as well as condition-based preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of all greenhouse systems
- Log daily rounds of all critical manufacturing equipment, boilers, cooling systems (, Glycol, R410A etc.), pumps, compressors etc.
- Work cross functionally with other departments, and outside contractors to increase machine uptime.
- Help with back-up operations and coverage
- Participate in rotating on-call work schedules
- Assists and performs any other related duties as needed or assigned
- Willingness to attend company provided continuing education and training on boilers, cooling, and electrical systems as directed by supervision
- Ability and willingness to work with little supervision
- Effectively communicate with vendors in different time zones and show a willingness to flex working hours on occasion to accommodate production
- Willingness to work additional hours as required to complete tasks
- Assist with and perform any other related duties required or assigned
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Ability to troubleshoot 480V, 400V, 120V, 24V and 12VDC systems
- Ability to read blueprints, electrical schematics, parts diagrams, and engineering drawings
- Knowledge of utility maintenance including irrigation systems, electric, and IT
- Computer skills
- Using FIIX software or similar a plus
Education and Experience:
- 3 years of maintenance experience preferred
- Must be willing to train in building automation (Priva), and maintenance management system Fiix). Classes will be provided for both systems and must be completed within 90 days of your onboarding.
- Hold or obtain a mechatronics, or controls certification, from an accredited school within a timeline agreed upon by management.
- Forklift certified, preferred
- Experience with roll stock packaging equipment and robotics, preferred
Supervisory:
This position does not have any supervisory responsibilitiesWork Environment:
Greenhouse, 50%
- The temperatures in the greenhouse very depending on the weather outside
- Climate can range from hot and humid to cold depending on the location and time of year
- PPE must be worn at all times
Packhouse, 50%
- The temperatures in the packhouse are between 34-38° F to preserve product quality
PPE must be worn at all times
Physical Requirements:
- Constantly ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like
- Occasionally moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces
- Occasionally remaining in a stationary position, or sitting for prolonged periods
- Constantly moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
- Constantly lifting, adjusting or moving objects up to 50 pounds in all directions
- Occasionally performing heavy work that includes moving objects up to 100 pounds or more
- Constantly repeating motions that may include the arm, shoulder, wrists, hands and/or fingers
- Occasionally operating machinery and/or power tool
- Occasionally operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment
- Constantly standing, squatting, or kneeling for extended periods of time
