Brief Description
The Naval Architect reports to the Manager of RESOLVE Engineering Group (REG). This full-time salary position based in REG’s offices in New Orleans, LA and supports RESOLVE’s global emergency response, salvage and wreck removal operations in addition to REG’s traditional naval architecture and engineering business. The Naval Architect is a dual role position, supporting both RESOLVE Marine Group’s (RMG) operations as well as REG’s commercial engineering work in the office.
While supporting RMG’s operations, the position responsibilities range from development of emergency response and wreck removal technical plans and engineering support for field operations and fleet support. While supporting REG’s commercial engineering work, the position responsibilities include traditional naval architecture services for REG’s clients ranging from fleet support, naval architecture and engineering calculations, vessel modifications and new construction projects.

Position Responsibilities
- Provide support to the Operations team as needed including the development of written technical plans, drawings and diagrams to support operations, preform initial emergency response surveys, towing plans and calculations, rigging design and vessel connections, vessel arrangements and site plans.
- Develop 3D hull models for use in stability software for damage stability, salvage and wreck removal operations. Use 3D hull models to preform stability intact and damage stability calculations.
- Use stability software and hydrostatics information to develop ground reactions, ballast/cargo discharge requirement and estimate freeing force requirements.
- Develop written technical plans to be submitted to the client and appropriate authorities for various emergency response, salvage and wreck removal operations.
- Work with and review outside engineering work that may be involved with larger engineering projects.
- Maintain engineering reports and plans developed for RESOLVE’s emergency response, salvage and wreck removal projects.
- Develop and engineer vessel modifications (arrangement, structural, piping and outfitting) to suit REG’s client requests and vessel needs.
- Develop design calculations and technical reports for new vessel design and modifications.
- Develop structural design using first principle and advanced analysis calculations. Experience with FEA structural analysis is strongly desired.
- Preform detail design/drafting for vessel modifications, vessel repairs, outfitting and site plans.
- Develop and engineer heavy lift and rigging arrangements.
- Develop and engineer vessel mooring system arrangements.
- Support other engineering projects that are associated with RESOLVE’s other business units.
- Ability to work within schedule and budget restraints
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, providing technical support on-site or remotely.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Naval Architecture.
- Minimum 6 years of engineering experience (salvage industry strongly preferred).
- Familiar with classification society rules as well as USCG and IMO regulations.
- Experience with the development and completion of construction drawings using CAD drafting.
- Familiarity with shipbuilding processes and production design, including detailed engineering design and drafting experience
- Experience with emergency ship repair procedures, salvage and wreck removal processes is strongly preferred.
- Engineer in Training (EIT) or ability to obtain EIT certification in Louisiana (if not already PE licensed).
- Professional Engineer license strongly preferred.
- Ability to obtain a Professional Engineer license in Louisiana (if not already licensed).
- Proficient in hydrostatic calculations including the development of 3D hull models for using in stability software, with experience with GHS software strongly preferred.
- Proficient in 2D CAD Autodesk AutoCAD software. Proficiency in a 3D CAD software such as Autodesk Inventor is also desired.
- Proficient in Rhino surface modelling software.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel. Experience with Microsoft Project also desired.
- Experience with plate element Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software is desired.
- Experience with onboard ship loading software is strongly preferred.
- Provide engineering supervision for junior Naval Architects as needed.
- Provide engineering supervision for RMG operations, including emergency response, salvage and wreck removal projects.
