Job Description – Naval Architect (Covington, LA – Office)
Main Purposes
· Perform vessel sea fastening and load out drawings & Calculations.
· Perform ship structure and weight/stability analysis. Perform structure and outfit functional design effort.
· Review functional and production drawings produced by outside engineering firms.
· Review Vendor Furnished Information for compliance and acceptability.
· Ensure compliance with applicable standards, codes, and class/regulatory rules.
Essential Functions
· Produce drawings, analysis, and technical reports with in-house resources.
· Work on new vessel and vessel modification design projects with respect to Structural Design, Outfit Design, Weight Estimating, Stability analysis, Lifts and Flips, etc.
· Perform calculations to support design decisions and quality check calculations to ensure final products meet quality standards and contract standards and requirements
Other Responsibilities
· Participate in client meetings and develop successful working relationships
· Work with multidisciplinary staff.
· Support the Estimating and Proposal Group with takeoffs, specification reviews, quote evaluations, concept design work, and proposal support.
Physical Requirements
· Ability to sit 8 hours per day.
· Ability to perform site visits, inclines, etc.
Job Requirements
· Bachelor’s Degree in Naval Architecture from an ABET accredited school.
· 3 plus years as a Naval Architect is required.
· Professional Engineers License not required but is preferred.
· Experience working on both commercial and government projects is a plus.
· Strong verbal and written communication skills.
· Understanding of ABS, USCG, & SOLAS rules.
· Ability to develop, comprehend, and evaluate contract specifications.
· Must be a U.S. National.
