Schedule: Facility operates 365 days/year. Typical shift is 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM, with occasional overtime required.

Position Summary
The Animal Care Technician plays a vital role in supporting the daily care, health, and maintenance of reptiles and other animals within our facility. This position involves hands-on husbandry work, ensuring all animals receive proper nutrition, clean habitats, disease prevention, and appropriate breeding support.
Animals cared for include reptiles (snakes, lizards, chameleons, turtles), as well as other species such as amphibians, arachnids, insects, and small feeder animals.
Key Responsibilities
- Feed, water, and administer medications according to established protocols
- Clean, disinfect, and maintain animal enclosures on a scheduled basis
- Set up and monitor eggs for incubation
- Observe animals daily for signs of illness, injury, or abnormal behavior
- Provide routine care for juvenile and adult animals; escalate concerns when needed
- Maintain accurate records (feeding, weight, health status, medications)
- Report births, deaths, injuries, and irregularities to supervisors
- Receive, unload, and store feed and supplies
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Genuine interest in and comfort working with animals
- Ability to handle reptiles, feeder insects (e.g., crickets, mealworms), and feeder animals (e.g., mice)
- Strong attention to detail and consistency in completing repetitive tasks
- Ability to follow instructions and established procedures
- Reliable, punctual, and accountable
- Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities
- Basic reading, writing, and math skills
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in environments with temperatures of 85–90°F and high humidity
- Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical labor for extended periods (up to 8 hours)
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally and 25 lbs frequently
- Ability to perform repetitive motions and tasks
- Capable of bending, lifting, reaching, twisting, kneeling, crouching, and climbing
- Willingness to learn and use tools and equipment, including:
- Hand tools and facility equipment
- Scales, thermometers, and computer systems
- Power washer and commercial cleaning equipment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in animal husbandry, veterinary care, or a related field
