We are working with a mission-driven nonprofit organization who is looking to bring on a full time Accounting Manager to join their team right away. The Accounting Manager is a hands-on leader responsible for overseeing all accounting operations and building strong financial systems for a mission-driven nonprofit organization. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, compliance with grant and contract requirements, and the development of sustainable processes that support organizational growth.
The ideal candidate is both detail-oriented and strategic—someone who can manage day-to-day accounting tasks while also designing the infrastructure needed to support long-term financial health.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Accounting Leadership
- Oversee daily accounting operations, including month-end and year-end close, bank reconciliations, journal entries, and financial statement preparation.
- Develop and improve accounting systems, policies, and internal controls to ensure accuracy, compliance, and audit readiness.
- Maintain the chart of accounts and ensure proper segregation of duties.
Grants & Contract Compliance
- Lead the preparation and submission of financial reports and invoices for government, foundation, and private grants.
- Monitor restricted funds to ensure proper allocation and compliance.
- Support program teams in developing grant budgets and financial projections.
- Coordinate annual audits and manage relationships with external auditors.
Team Leadership
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing coaching, training, and ongoing development.
- Promote a collaborative, supportive, and accountable work environment.
Financial Strategy & Reporting
- Provide financial analysis, forecasting, and modeling to support organizational decision-making.
- Prepare financial dashboards, management reports, and board-level presentations.
- Partner with leadership to support cash flow planning and long-term financial sustainability.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or associates degree in Accounting highly preferred
- 7–10 years of progressively responsible accounting experience, ideally within a nonprofit setting.
- Strong understanding of fund accounting and grant compliance.
- Experience developing or improving accounting systems and processes.
- Proficiency with accounting software and advanced Excel skills.
- Strong accuracy, organizational skills, and documentation habits.
Salary : $95,000 - $115,000
