The Renaissance Dallas North Hotel is seeking a skilled and dependable Hotel Engineer to join our Engineering team. Reports To: Director of Engineering
Position Purpose
Work closely with the Director of Engineering and Engineering team to ensure the timely and efficient maintenance of hotel facilities and equipment. Respond to engineering service requests with a focus on guest satisfaction while maintaining all building systems and equipment in a safe, reliable, and efficient manner.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to guest maintenance requests promptly, professionally, and safely.
- Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on hotel equipment and systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, boilers, kitchen equipment, laundry equipment, pools, and guest room fixtures.
- Monitor and maintain engineering operations during periods when full engineering staff is unavailable, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Respond appropriately to emergency situations, including fire alarms, power outages, natural disasters, and security incidents, notifying appropriate personnel and emergency services when necessary.
- Conduct routine inspections of guest rooms, public areas, mechanical spaces, and exterior grounds to identify maintenance concerns and ensure the property is operating efficiently.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas while following all safety procedures.
- Complete work orders, preventive maintenance tasks, equipment readings, and maintenance logs accurately and in accordance with company and brand standards.
- Maintain inventory of engineering supplies and parts, documenting materials used and notifying management when replenishment is needed.
- Assist with elevator malfunctions and other urgent mechanical or facility-related issues.
- Report unsafe conditions, equipment failures, or maintenance concerns to the Director of Engineering immediately.
- Support exterior property maintenance, including parking lot upkeep and seasonal weather-related responsibilities.
- Assist other departments with operational needs when cross-functional support is required.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
QualificationsEducation
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Trade school training, vocational certification, or coursework in building maintenance, construction, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or a related field is strongly preferred.
Experience
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in building maintenance, facilities management, hotel engineering, or a related field preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Working knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and building systems.
- Ability to perform general maintenance, repairs, renovations, and basic construction tasks.
- Strong troubleshooting, diagnostic, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and respond effectively during emergencies.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a team.
- Basic computer skills for completing work orders and maintenance documentation.
Schedule Requirements
- Work schedules will vary based on hotel occupancy, business demands, and staffing needs.
- Availability to work mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts as needed.
- Must maintain regular attendance and comply with company scheduling policies.
Physical RequirementsLifting, Pushing, Pulling, and Carrying
Frequent lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying of tools, equipment, supplies, furniture, and maintenance materials weighing up to 50 pounds independently and heavier items with assistance.
Bending and Kneeling
Frequent bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, twisting, reaching, and climbing while performing maintenance and repair tasks.
Mobility
Full mobility is required to access all areas of the hotel, including guest rooms, rooftops, mechanical rooms, stairwells, and exterior grounds.
Standing and Walking
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout an entire shift.
Stair Climbing and Ladder Use
Frequent climbing of stairs and the safe use of ladders, scaffolding, and lifts when necessary.
Work EnvironmentIndoor and Outdoor Conditions
Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments and may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, or humidity.
Communication Requirements
Ability to understand, follow, and communicate verbal and written instructions clearly and professionally with guests, coworkers, and management.
Chemical Exposure
Regular use of cleaning chemicals, paints, solvents, oils, lubricants, pool chemicals, pesticides, and other maintenance-related materials while following all safety procedures.
Personal Protective Equipment
Required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, eye protection, hearing protection, and other safety equipment as necessary.
