Senior Pipeline Engineer - Emphasis on Electrical
Location – Houston, Texas (hybrid schedule)
Salary - $165,000 - $200,000 DOE
The Senior Pipeline Engineer is a role who supports projects through all phases, from early design through construction, commissioning, and startup, ensuring electrical systems for pipelines and associated facilities meet applicable codes, standards, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
This position serves as an SME for Electrical, providing technical leadership across midstream assets including natural gas compressor stations, booster stations, metering facilities, and valve sites. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping and continuously improving electrical engineering standards, practices, and technical excellence across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute and manage a wide range of electrical engineering assignments requiring strong technical judgment and industry expertise
- Support the planning and delivery of midstream capital projects with a focus on quality, safety, reliability, and schedule adherence
- Lead and oversee EPCM contractors’ electrical design activities, ensuring compliance with project requirements, codes, standards, and regulatory obligations
- Participate in all project phases including Pre-FEED, FEED, detailed design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and startup
- Review, comment on, and approve electrical engineering deliverables and technical documentation
- Perform quality assurance reviews to validate accuracy and constructability of designs
- Collaborate with project teams, contractors, and vendors to resolve complex electrical engineering issues
- Participate in technical and safety reviews including HAZID, HAZOP, design reviews, model reviews, and JSAs
- Provide electrical engineering support where needed
- Stay current with evolving electrical technologies and industry best practices
- Promote innovative design solutions to improve safety, efficiency, and system reliability
- Review RFP packages and support technical bid evaluations for electrical equipment and materials
- Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and Site Acceptance Tests (SATs)
- Provide on-site electrical support during construction, commissioning, and startup activities
- Travel as needed to contractor offices, project sites, and coordination meetings
- Manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously while meeting deadlines and commitments
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and project updates for internal stakeholders
- Anticipate stakeholder needs, identify risks, and propose effective technical solutions
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers
- Perform additional duties as required to support project and organizational objectives
Qualifications
Education & Credentials
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems emphasis preferred)
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration preferred but not required
Experience
- 5–10 years of progressive electrical engineering experience, ideally supporting medium to large EPC or EPCM projects
- Oil & Gas industry experience required; midstream pipeline and facilities experience strongly preferred
Technical Expertise
- Strong experience with medium- and low-voltage power systems, controls, and protection schemes
- Working knowledge of transformers, E-Houses, switchgear, MCCs, substations, hazardous area classification, grounding, lighting, and raceway systems
- Ability to perform electrical calculations and power system studies
- Experience with ETAP or similar power system analysis software preferred
- Solid understanding of NEC, NFPA, IEEE, API standards and recommended practices
- Familiarity with natural gas industry standards, OSHA regulations, and safety programs
- Experience supporting Pre-FEED, FEED, or EPC phases of industrial or midstream projects
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with a demonstrated commitment to safety
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple concurrent workstreams
- Proven ability to work cross-functionally with mechanical, civil, instrumentation, and project controls teams
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams) and engineering support tools such as Bluebeam, GIS viewers, and Hexagon platforms
