Position Overview
My client is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Account Executive with a strong background in handbags, backpacks, and soft goods. This role will be responsible for managing and growing key accounts across major department stores and off-price retailers. The ideal candidate brings a deep understanding of the accessories market, established retail relationships, and a proven track record of driving sales and profitability.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and grow sales within key accounts, including major department stores and off-price retailers (e.g., Macy’s, Nordstrom, TJX, Ross, Burlington, etc.)
- Develop and execute seasonal sales strategies to achieve and exceed revenue targets
- Build and maintain strong relationships with buyers, planners, and merchandising teams
- Lead the end-to-end sales process including product presentations, pricing negotiations, and order execution
- Collaborate cross-functionally with design, merchandising, and production teams to align assortment with customer needs
- Analyze sales performance, market trends, and competitive landscape to identify growth opportunities
- Drive product assortment strategy by account, ensuring alignment with brand positioning and retail partner requirements
- Monitor inventory levels, reorders, and sell-through to maximize business performance
- Partner with operations/logistics to ensure timely delivery and fulfillment
- Represent the company at key market appointments, trade shows, and client meetings
Qualifications
- 7 years of experience in sales or account management within handbags, backpacks, or soft goods
- Proven experience managing major department store and off-price accounts
- Strong existing relationships within the retail channel is highly preferred
- Demonstrated ability to meet or exceed sales targets and grow accounts
- Excellent negotiation, presentation, and communication skills
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret sales data and trends
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and sales/order management systems
