Responsibilities & Duties
- Payroll processing for approximately 1,200 employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and government regulations.
- Troubleshooting various system and accounting issues.
- Prepare payroll by entering data, processing forms, creating imports, and completing checklists.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations, including tax filings and reporting requirements.
- Accurately respond to payroll-related inquiries and concerns from employees and provide timely resolution.
- Create journal entries for payroll-related payments.
- Reconcile payroll accounts and assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures, including the generation of IRS Form W-2.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in payroll administration, payroll systems, and software.
- Thorough understanding of federal and state payroll regulations, including multi-state payroll processing.
- Experience handling confidential information with discretion.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Skilled in both internal and external communication.
- Collaborative, respectful, and friendly disposition in handling payroll-related questions or concerns.
- Ability to multitask and handle a high-capacity workload.
- Affinity for continuous learning.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Flexible and able to pivot quickly, easily adapting to changes.
- Understanding of basic accounting as it pertains to payroll functions, such as journal entries and chart of accounts reconciliation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel using complex formulas and other Office applications.
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation.
- Experience with non-profit payroll.
- Experience with religiously based payroll items such as ministerial exceptions and housing allowance.
- Experience with payroll tied to support-based fundraising.
