The Controller is a key leadership role at Reliant responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the organization, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements, and financial alignment with the organization's mission and strategic goals. This position manages accounting, internal controls, audits, and financial systems for a mission-focused, complex non-profit. In addition, this position oversees payroll, reimbursements, internal audits, special projects, and other ad hoc financial needs of the organization.

- Provide leadership to finance teams, including strategic alignment with Reliant's vision and mission, departmental direction, and priority-setting
- Provide professional development, mentoring, and coaching to finance staff.
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment rooted in Christian values.
- Work closely with Central Operations and Program Teams to develop and refine financial processes.

- Prepare timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Oversee general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and grants accounting.
- Maintain and improve internal controls and accounting policies.
- Coordinate annual external audit and manage relationships with auditors.
- Ensure compliance with IRS regulations, Uniform Guidance, and other funder requirements.
- Prepare regulatory filings.
- Collaborate with the CFO and department heads to develop and monitor annual budgets.
- Provide financial forecasts and scenario planning to support organizational agility.
- Provide strategic and ongoing oversight of payroll and reimbursement functions, including oversight of the Payroll and Reimbursements Manager.
- Be familiar with Reliant payroll concepts—including order-of-pay, taxes, and other compliance matters—and advise on complex payroll-related issues
- As needed, advise on complex reimbursement issues
- Drive continuous improvement of financial processes, policies, and systems
- Make financial processes, policies, and systems increasingly scalable and efficient.
- Lead implementation and optimization of financial systems and tools.
- Optimize utilization of MS Dynamics 365 Business Central, Syllogist Payroll, and other pertinent applications
- Lead department in utilization of Power BI, AI Functions (i.e. MS Co-Pilot), and other reporting and analytical tools
- Identify opportunities for automation and efficiency in financial processes.
- Demonstrates the spiritual calling, giftedness, and maturity requisite for a position of ministry leadership within the organization, as determined by senior management.
- Affirms, in agreement with Reliant, that God has called them to serve Him in a ministry leadership position, and has equipped them with the appropriate gifts, training, and skills for such a calling.
- Displays the devotion, character, lifestyle, and values of a person who is called to serve in this capacity and demonstrates the reality of their commitment to the Lord and His Word.
- Understands that the position plays an important leadership role in the expression and exercise of Reliant's Christian beliefs and ministry activities.
- Affirms that this position is a position of ministerial leadership within Reliant, subject to the “ministerial exception” legal doctrine.
- Serves in a ministry position within Reliant by providing spiritual, ministerial, and administrative leadership for the accomplishment and effectiveness of Reliant's and its partner ministries' mission.
- Serves as a role model for spiritual maturity in accordance with biblical Christian beliefs.
- Represents Reliant positively to outside organizations and individuals in a service, consultant, or advisory capacity.
- Provides spiritual guidance, direction, and care to employees under the individual's supervision and to others with respect to living as a disciple of Jesus Christ and serving the mission of Reliant.
- Committed to the personal development of team members by providing opportunities for spiritual and professional growth.
- Organizes, leads, and participates in prayer groups on an ongoing basis, and fulfills other ministry functions and requirements as requested by Reliant.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Active Certified Public Accountant.
- Minimum 7–10 years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory roles.
- Experience in non-profit financial management.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, fund accounting, and financial reporting standards.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., MS Dynamics Business Central) and Excel.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
