What are the responsibilities and job description for the Janitor position at Rehabilitation Support Services, Inc.?
We are seeking responsible and detail‑oriented janitorial staff to ensure that the facilities remain safe, clean, and well‑maintained. The ideal candidate is dependable, organized and experienced in custodial services.
Schedule
- 16-24 hours per week to start
- 10pm-6am a couple days per week to start
- Availability to fill in other shifts preferred
Rest Area Janitor Responsibilities
Daily Cleaning & Facility Maintenance
- Clean and sanitize restrooms (toilets, urinals, sinks, mirrors, counters).
- Refill restroom supplies (soap, paper towels, toilet paper).
- Empty trash and recycling bins throughout the facility.
- Sweep, mop and disinfect floors in restrooms, hallways, and common areas.
- Clean high-touch surfaces (door handles, railings, dispensers).
- Remove debris from walkways, parking areas and picnic spots.
Grounds keeping
- Pick up litter throughout the exterior grounds.
- Maintain cleanliness of picnic tables, benches and outdoor shelters.
- Clear snow/ice from entryways (if required by site).
- Handle light landscaping tasks (e.g., sweeping sidewalks, monitoring for hazards).
Monitoring & Safety
- Conduct routine inspections of the facility for cleanliness and safety issues.
- Identify and report maintenance concerns (clogged toilets, leaks, lighting problems).
- Ensure safe usage and storage of cleaning chemicals.
Equipment Operation
- Use janitorial equipment such as: floor scrubbers, vacuums, pressure washers, mops and manual cleaning tools
- Report equipment malfunctions.
Customer Service & Public Interaction
- Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor.
Documentation
- Complete cleaning logs or shift checklists as required.
- Document incidents, repairs or supply needs for management.
Qualifications
- Prior experience in janitorial and floor maintenance roles preferred
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to work independently while supporting a team
- Comfortable performing physical tasks (standing, lifting, walking)
- Familiarity with cleaning equipment, chemicals, and safety procedures
