Controller / CFO
Location: Baltimore, MD or Kansas City MO with US travel
The Opportunity
A rapidly growing real estate development platform is seeking an talented Controller / CFO to build and lead its finance and accounting function. This is a highly visible leadership position responsible for creating scalable financial infrastructure, supporting major development projects, and partnering closely with executive leadership on strategic growth initiatives.
We're looking for entrepreneurial, hands-on candidates that are drawn to scaling businesses, teams, and processes and those that understand the highly dynamic nature of a role as a platform expands.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all development accounting, financial reporting, treasury, budgeting, forecasting, and cash management activities.
- Establish scalable financial systems, controls, policies, and reporting frameworks.
- Oversee project accounting, construction draws, lender reporting, and development finance activities.
- Partner with development, construction, investment, and executive teams to support business decisions and growth.
- Manage relationships with auditors, lenders, tax advisors, and internal/external partners.
- Build and lead a high-performing finance and accounting team as the organization scales.
Experience needed
- 15 years of progressive finance and accounting experience.
- Strong background in real estate development, construction, private equity, family office, or institutional investment environments.
- Experience supporting large-scale development projects and complex capital structures.
- Deep expertise in project accounting, budgeting, forecasting, cash management, and financial reporting.
- CPA preferred; MBA a plus.
- Proven ability to build systems, processes, and teams within a growing organization.
- Strong executive presence, communication skills, and a hands-on, entrepreneurial mindset.
Compensation
c$230,000 - $350,000 Base Bonus Benefits. Final salary will be determined by candidate experience, location, and cultural alignment.
