Summary
Wacousta Elementary is seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to support our K-4 Resource Room. This full-time position involves working closely with students who require additional academic and emotional support to thrive in their educational environment. The ideal candidate will foster a nurturing and inclusive atmosphere, collaborating with teachers, parents, and specialists to ensure that each student achieves their full potential.
Responsibilities
- Provide individualized and small group instruction to students with diverse learning needs, including those with disabilities and learning challenges.
- Develop and implement personalized education plans (IEPs) in collaboration with special education staff and classroom teachers.
- Monitor and assess student progress, adapting instruction and interventions as needed.
- Create a positive and supportive learning environment that encourages student engagement and self-confidence.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to integrate accommodations and modifications into the general education curriculum.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and strategies for support at home.
- Participate in team meetings, professional development, and training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge in special education practices.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, assessments, and IEP documentation.
- Foster social-emotional learning and provide support for students' behavioral needs.
- Work with school administration and support staff to promote an inclusive school culture.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Elementary Education, or a related field.
- Valid teaching certification or endorsement in special education.
- Experience working with K-4 students in a resource room or similar educational setting is preferred.
- Strong understanding of special education laws, IEP processes, and differentiated instruction strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping students succeed.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and adapt to the needs of individual students.
- Proficient in using technology and educational software to support instruction and assessment.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying current with best practices in special education.
