Responsibilities
- Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as dressing, grooming, and mobility to support patient independence.
- Implement treatment plans designed by occupational therapists, ensuring therapy goals are met effectively.
- Help with patient transport within facilities and assist in care documentation to ensure accurate record-keeping.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals—including physicians, speech therapists, and physical therapists—to optimize patient outcomes.
- Use your physiology and anatomy knowledge to adapt therapy techniques for clients with neurodevelopmental disorders or disabilities.
- Contribute to care plans for patients across various in skilled nursing facilities.
Requirements
- Valid certification as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) from an accredited program. Passed the NBCOT Exam and posses a professional licensure in AL to treat as a COTA or is eligible to receive one.
- Prior experience working in acute care, inpatient settings, skilled nursing facilities, outpatient clinics, or home health is highly desirable.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, care documentation standards, and treatment plan implementation.
- Experience working with individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders, disabilities, and geriatrics is preferred.
- Knowledge of occupational therapy techniques including manual handling and patient care procedures.
- Excellent communication skills for caregiver and client interactions, ensuring clear understanding of care needs and progress.
- Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams while maintaining a positive and energetic approach.
