Dynamic, family oriented and growing contracting company is seeking a Controller to join the company and contribute their financial expertise. The ideal candidate will have Eight – Twelve (8-12) years of progressive accounting and financial leadership in the construction/contracting industry, working with annual revenues of 50 million dollars, and a bachelor’s degree.

The Controller will be responsible and accountable for leading the entire accounting and finance functions within a construction focused environment. This will include A/P, A/R, billing, contract administration, monthly closing, reporting & analysis, budgets & forecasts, banking relations, and risk management.

The position includes creating and managing effective tools for day to day accounting and finance operations (experience with a construction ERP system specifically with Spectrum /Viewpoint) as well as creating budgets and providing reports and performance metrics to assist management.

Responsibilities:

· Direct all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, job costing, and revenue recognition.

· Provide financial analysis and strategic recommendations to executive leadership to support organizational planning and decision‑making.

· Lead the development of annual budgets, forecasts, and long‑range financial plans.

· Establish and maintain strong internal controls to ensure financial accuracy, compliance, and operational scalability.

· Oversee job‑cost accounting, WIP schedules, cost‑to‑complete analysis, and project profitability reporting.

· Ensure accurate tracking of labor, materials, subcontractor costs, equipment utilization, and overhead allocation.

· Support project managers and operations leadership with timely financial insights to improve project performance and cost control.

· Maintain compliance with state and local construction regulations, licensing requirements, and industry‑specific financial standards.

· Produce timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.

· Manage external audits, tax filings, bonding requirements, and banking relationships.

· Maintain comprehensive documentation, policies, and standard operating procedures for all accounting processes.

· Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, including payroll compliance, sales/use tax, and construction‑related reporting obligations.

· Evaluate and enhance accounting systems, ERP platforms, and reporting tools to support operational efficiency.

· Implement process improvements across AP, AR, close cycles, cash management, and job‑cost workflows.

· Monitor cash flow, working capital, and liquidity to support ongoing project and equipment needs.

· Develop and maintain KPIs, dashboards, and financial reporting tools that improve visibility and accountability across the organization.

· Lead, mentor, and develop a high‑performing accounting team with a focus on accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.

· Establish clear performance expectations and provide coaching to support professional growth.

· Collaborate with operations, project management, HR, procurement, and executive leadership to ensure alignment between financial processes and field operations.

Requirements:

· Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.

· CPA or CMA strongly preferred.

· Eight – Twelve (8-12) years of progressive accounting experience and leadership experience ideally within construction, utilities, heavy civil, or project‑based industries.

· Direct experience with ERP construction accounting software Spectrum Viewpoint.

· Strong knowledge of job costing, WIP reporting, and percentage-of-completion accounting.

· Deep understanding of WIP reporting and job costing.

· Experience managing payroll and AR in a project-based business.

· Solid GAAP and financial reporting technical skills.

· Exceptional work ethic, strong time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.

· Advanced decision making, analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
