Title of Role: Head of Operations

Location: San Francisco, CA (On-site, 5-6 days/week with some flexibility)

Company Stage of Funding: Seed / Series A, Venture-Backed

Office Type: On-site with limited flexibility (hybrid day possible)

Salary: $150K - $220K base equity

Company Description

We are representing a fast-growing, venture-backed AI startup that is building the next generation of data and marketplace infrastructure to support cutting-edge artificial intelligence models. The company is backed by top investors and is already generating millions in annualized revenue. What You Will Do

• Build and scale the company’s marketplace from the ground up, enabling revenue growth by expanding task types and growing a network of specialized domain experts.
• Own and manage relationships with leading AI labs and enterprise customers, ensuring marketplace operations align with their evolving data needs.
• Recruit, vet, and manage domain specialists across industries (finance, healthcare, etc.), establishing scalable processes for workforce quality and output.
• Partner closely with engineering teams to enhance the workforce platform and integrate expert data into reinforcement learning environments.
• Take ownership of high-impact marketplace initiatives and play a key leadership role in defining the future of the company’s operations.
• Step into management responsibilities within 2-4 months, building and leading a small team of operations professionals.
  
  

Ideal Candidate Background

• 1-6 years of experience in Operations, Business Operations, Finance, or a Chief of Staff-style role.
• Previous experience in data-heavy startups, marketplaces, or fast-scaling environments.
• Strong background in finance, consulting, or investing (e.g., Investment Banking, Private Equity, Venture Capital, Hedge Fund) OR operational roles at leading technology companies/startups.
• Undergraduate degree in Finance, Business, Economics, Engineering, or a related field from a top university.
• Excited to thrive in a fast-moving, startup environment where you’ll take on a broad scope of responsibilities.
• Willingness and ability to work in-person in San Francisco (relocation support available).
  
  

Preferred

• Experience at high-growth fintech companies (e.g., Stripe, Ramp, Brex, Plaid, Robinhood, Affirm).
• Background at data operations or AI workforce companies (e.g., Scale AI, Appen, Sama, Labelbox).
• Technical literacy or exposure to AI/ML, with the ability to work closely with engineers.
• Experience managing small teams or mentoring junior colleagues.
