About the Role
This is a hands-on litigation associate role at an employer-side employment defense firm in Long Beach. They have more work than hands right now, and they need someone who can step in and own cases from day one. This is not a training seat. This is not a junior role. This is not for someone who needs to be told what to do next. If you are a 3–5 year litigator who wants to actually run cases, write real motions, take depositions, and move files toward resolution - this is the environment for that. If you are looking for a BigLaw structure, a remote setup, or a role where someone else does the heavy lifting, this is not a fit.
What You Will Do
- Manage written discovery, depo prep, and motion practice on active employment defense matters
- Handle wage and hour, harassment, discrimination, and wrongful termination cases from the defense side
- Position cases for resolution - practical, results-oriented work
- Work directly with senior attorneys while owning your files with a case-runner mindset
- Keep cases moving without waiting for instructions
Must-Have Background
- 3–5 years of civil litigation experience, defense-side strongly preferred
- Strong writer - a writing sample is required, no exceptions
- Deposition experience, or close to it
- Employment defense experience is strongly preferred; candidates with strong general civil litigation defense backgrounds will also be considered
- Ability to work onsite in Long Beach (first 90 days), then hybrid
- Must be licensed and in good standing with the California State Bar
Compensation
Comp is production-based. Most people in this seat bill around 150–170 hours per month and land between $170,000 and $220,000. It is not capped - your earnings reflect how you perform. Flexible hours. Not a strict 8–5.
Work Model: Onsite for the first 90 days, then hybrid.
