What are the responsibilities and job description for the Construction Project Manager position at recruitAbility?
Project Manager – Construction (Turnkey / Travel-Based)
Remote (U.S.) | Travel Required
I’ll keep this direct.
This isn’t a “sit behind a desk and update schedules” PM role.
This is for someone who knows how to own projects end-to-end… manage contractors… deal with real-world jobsite variables… and keep things moving when nothing is going perfectly.
We’re partnered with a construction manufacturing organization that operates in a unique lane…
They design, build, and install specialized environments inside active facilities across the U.S. and Canada.
That means:
- You’re not just coordinating… you’re owning outcomes
- You’re not building the whole site… but your scope has to be right every time
- You’re working with customers, GCs, internal teams, and subs… often all at once
What You’ll Own
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously (often 5–10 at a time)
- Coordinate with customers, general contractors, and installation teams
- Oversee subcontractors across trades (carpentry, refrigeration, electrical, etc.)
- Handle scheduling, change orders, and project documentation
- Travel to job sites to keep projects aligned and moving
- Resolve issues… including the ones your own team created (that part matters)
What This Role Actually Requires
- Construction project management experience (this is not an IT PM role)
- Ability to manage contractors and hold a schedule together under pressure
- Strong communication… internally and externally
- Comfort operating in a fast-moving, imperfect environment
- Willingness to travel (can be up to ~50–70% depending on workload)
- Someone who can be firm when needed… but knows how to partner, not just push
What Tends to Work Well Here
- 5–8 years of construction experience (sweet spot)
- Background in commercial construction, interiors, or specialty builds
- People who aren’t afraid to be hands-on when needed
- PMs who can manage details and relationships at the same time
What Makes This Different
- You’re working in a hybrid manufacturing construction environment
- You’ll manage projects where your company is both the product provider and installer
- Heavy emphasis on:
- Communication
- Documentation
- Relationships
If you’ve only worked in traditional GC environments… this will feel different.
Comp
- Base: ~$95K depending on experience
- Bonus: 10–15% based on company performance
- Travel covered (company card, flights, lodging, etc.)
This role isn’t for everyone.
But if you’re someone who likes being in the middle of real projects… solving problems… and actually seeing the outcome of your work…
It’s worth a conversation, we look forward to hearing from you.
Salary : $95,000 - $115,000
