Principal R&D Electrical Engineer - Twin Cities Class III Med Tech - Permanent up to 160k base bonus
Please see the below requirements for a Principal R&D Electrical Engineer to join a group working across next‑generation implantable medical technologies. The client is looking for someone who can step in as a technical leader, drive innovation, and push complex systems from concept through commercialization.
Responsibilities:
- Owning the design, development, verification, and validation of cutting‑edge electronic systems for implantable devices.
- Providing hands‑on technical leadership across cross‑functional R&D teams - guiding architecture decisions, tackling complex technical challenges, and elevating design rigor.
- Leading the electrical engineering workstream through the full product development lifecycle: concept generation, feasibility, prototyping, risk analysis, DFM, testing, and transfer to manufacturing.
- Driving design documentation, design reviews, failure analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives for highly complex electro‑medical systems.
- Ensuring designs meet relevant safety and performance standards, including IEC 60601 and other applicable requirements for active implantable devices.
Requirements:
- BS Engineering
- 7 years of experience in Electrical Engineering within a regulated domain.
- Background in implantable or Class III device development.
- Deep experience with mixed‑signal design, low‑power architectures, embedded electronics, analog front‑ends, or high‑reliability circuits.
- Proven success leading technical efforts - mentoring engineers, owning critical design decisions, and representing EE in cross‑functional settings.
- Solid understanding of IEC standards such as IEC 60601, including risk management, electrical safety, EMC, and system compliance.
- Demonstrated ability to execute across the full product development lifecycle in a structured, regulated environment.
