POSITION SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the Manufacturing Manager and the direct guidance of the Sheet Metal coordinator, operates the Laser Machining Center, including the resonator, chiller, sheet loader, shuttle table and cutting head. Interprets engineering drawings, ensure layouts will result in the desired sheet metal component. Loads and unloads parts and cut sheets from the transfer table. Performs a variety of hand and machine-assisted function necessary to fabricate sheet metal parts and assemble industrial bakery systems.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

1. Interprets engineering sheet metal designs, drawings and bills of materials to ensure that the flat layout will yield the desired sheet metal component or assembly, fit with the mating parts and function properly within the machine.
2. Optimizes material usage by limiting waste in pattern layouts of metal. When necessary, builds fixtures to facilitate assembly sheet metal components and assemblies.
3. Selects the appropriate gauge thickness of sheet metal to meet design specifications. Performs a variety of machine assisted and hand operations related to the fabrication of sheet metal parts and the assembly of industrial bakery machinery. Aligns and fits mating parts to maintain the proper clearance or interference based on the application and the engineering specifications.
4. Maintains quality by inspecting parts during the laser operation using measuring devices and gauges to ensure manufacturing consistency to required specifications.
5. Use hand and power tools to deburr, polish, attach, align, tighten and/or adjust machine parts.
6. Cleans equipment and work area as necessary.
7. Manages the operation and process control to yield optimum operating cost and component quality by demonstrating:
   1. A high beam on / resonator on / ratio
   2. Minimum deburring
   3. Low unscheduled downtime
   4. Effective spare parts usage and control
8. Completes and maintains required production and quality control records and logs in accordance with Company production standards.
9. Provides feedback to co-workers, supervisor, and Company management on a regular basis to ensure efficient and effective assembly operations.
10. Participates and adheres to Company policies and programs on occupational health and safety, and operating procedures.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience, vocational technical school training that included sheet metal fabrication or laser operation. Usually three years of industrial sheet metal experience including general machinist skills, CNC machine experience and some MIG, TIG and spot welding experience.
• Demonstrated ability to read and interpret engineering designs, and component and assembly drawings including bend radii, fits, clearances, tolerances and weld symbols. Demonstrates a comprehensive knowledge of sheet metal gauge thickness system. Demonstrated ability to MIG, TIG and spot weld sheet metal components to one another and to other component parts
• Demonstrated ability to read, write, and speak English, and read and interpret documents, instructions, engineering drawings, and procedure manuals.
• Demonstrated oral and written communications skills to effectively interface with all levels of Company management and staff.
• Demonstrated ability to perform mathematical functions including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, trigonometry, geometry, percent, and ratios
• Demonstrated reasoning ability to solve practical problems
• Demonstrated ability to measure products to less than 0.001 (1/1000) inch using specifically designed measuring gauges and precise measuring instruments.
