    Re-1 Valley School District is seeking a passionate and student-centered Part-Time 6th-8th grade Music Teacher who inspires creativity, builds confidence, and fosters a lifelong love of music in elementary students. We are looking for an educator who believes music is essential to a well-rounded education and can create an engaging, inclusive classroom environment.
    This position includes general music instruction for 6th-8th grade students and coordination of elementary performances and music programs.

    REPORTS TO: Building Principal

    SALARY RANGE & CATEGORY: $22,000 - $32,927 on Teacher Salary Schedule (Based on a Part-Time Schedule)

    FLSA STATUS: Exempt

    WORK CALENDAR: 167 scheduled working days (4 hours/day), 4-day school week (Part-Time Working Days)

    Position Summary
    To provide high-quality music instruction that develops students' musical skills, creativity, appreciation of music, and performance abilities while supporting overall student growth and school culture.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    Instruction & Curriculum
    • Plan and deliver standards-based music instruction aligned to Colorado Academic Standards for Music
    • Teach foundational skills including rhythm, steady beat, pitch matching, tempo, dynamics, and basic notation
    • Incorporate singing, movement, instruments, listening activities, and creative expression
    • Use age-appropriate instructional strategies tailored to all learners
    • Integrate cross-curricular connections where appropriate
    Classroom Environment
    • Establish a positive and structured classroom environment
    • Teach and reinforce classroom procedures for instrument care and safe participation
    • Promote collaboration and confidence in performance
    Assessment & Growth
    • Assess student progress in foundational music skills
    • Provide feedback to students and communicate progress with families
    • Adjust instruction based on student developmental levels
    Performances & School Involvement
    • Coordinate and prepare students for grade-level performances (if applicable)
    • Support school events and programs involving music
    • Maintain music equipment and inventory
    Collaboration & Professional Responsibilities
    • Collaborate with classroom teachers and staff
    • Participate in professional learning communities and professional development
    • Maintain current licensure
    • Follow district policies and procedures

    Education & Experience

    • Bachelor's Degree in Music Education preferred and will be given first consideration
    • Currently hold a Colorado teaching license with appropriate endorsement or have licensure application in process (Additional coursework required for eligibility toward a Colorado Teacher License is required or must be completed within an agreed-upon timeframe)
    • Currently hold a Colorado Substitute Teaching License if Teacher License is not completed
    • Experience working with secondary-aged students preferred
    • Strong classroom management skills
    • Bilingual skills preferred

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    • Knowledge of secondary grade learners and age appropriate development
    • Understanding of foundational music concepts such as rhythm, pitch, tempo, and dynamics
    • Ability to plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate music lessons
    • Skill in teaching through singing, movement, and classroom instruments
    • Strong classroom management skills appropriate for students
    • Ability to create a positive, structured, and energetic learning environment
    • Ability to assess student progress and adjust instruction as needed
    • Strong communication and collaboration skills

    Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
    • Classroom setting
    • Ability to stand and move for extended periods
    • Ability to lift and move classroom instruments (up to 30 pounds)
    • Frequent bending, kneeling, and movement during instruction
    • Occasional evening events (parent conferences, school activities)

    RE-1 Valley School District has two high schools, one middle school, one junior high school, three elementary schools and two preschools and serves approximately 1,910 students in the Sterling and Iliff/Crook areas, employing about 400 staff.     Caliche Elementary and Caliche Jr/Sr High School, located outside Iliff, CO, are a part of RE-1 Valley School District. The District Administration Center is located in Sterling, CO (Logan County) in the Northeastern corner of Colorado on Interstate 76 alongside the Platte River. Having the largest population, approximately 13,900, in Logan County and much of the surrounding area, Sterling offers shopping, restaurants, numerous parks, a recreation center, access to medical care and is located near North Sterling Reservoir. Sterling is approximately 1 1/2 hours from Denver International Airport and 2 hours from Denver and the Front Range (I-25 corridor).
