Our client is an AI-native data and analytics platform that is changing how teams work with data. Their product lets people explore and reason over data using natural language or code on a trusted, AI-powered foundation. Backed by over $100M from tier-one investors, they have tens of thousands of daily users and count household names in fintech, design, and frontier AI among their customers. Founded in 2019, the team is now roughly 170 people and scaling fast.
The role
This is the engineering leader for the context platform, the layer that determines how well AI agents understand a company's data. You will own the strategy, the roadmap, and the org building an entirely new development lifecycle for context.
What you'll do
- Lead an organization of multiple teams building the context platform, including the studio surface where users can see how AI agents interact with their data, spot where quality falls short, and improve the context driving the outcome
- Serve as people manager for line-level engineering managers, tech leads, and senior ICs, setting a high bar and empowering them to do their best work
- Recruit exceptional engineering talent, growing the org to at least 15 software engineers
- Drive technical strategy, review designs, and stay close enough to the code to occasionally get hands on and move the needle
- Tackle foundational problems: detecting and debugging failures in agent reasoning, structuring and managing business context, and balancing human-in-the-loop systems with autonomous improvement
- Partner with product and architecture leadership to integrate the context layer with the fast-growing ecosystem of AI-powered tools and workflows
What we're looking for
- 5 years leading engineering teams on complex, data-intensive, or AI-driven SaaS platforms
- Experience managing other engineering managers, not just individual contributors
- Has led a team through a real agentic or AI product build-out in the last 2 to 3 years, shipped to customers, not just internal AI tooling
- Track record of leading and scaling engineering teams in the range of 12 to 40 engineers inside a high-growth startup (roughly Series B to Series G)
- Comfortable coding in TypeScript or Python (assessed in a technical screen, not a day-to-day expectation)
- Deep curiosity for, and strong intuition about, state-of-the-art AI agent behavior and context systems
- Computer Science degree or an equivalent technical background

- Built developer-facing or data-facing products used at real scale
- Strong product instinct and comfort operating cross-functionally with product, design, and architecture leaders

Compensation and benefits
$262K to $349K base, based on qualifications and experience, plus competitive equity. Full-time position. Our client is open to visa transfers (OPT, H1B transfers) and to new visa sponsorships (H1B, TN).
Location and work model
Hybrid in New York, NY. Two days in office each week (Tuesdays and Thursdays).
