Peer Support Specialist Key Responsibilities:
- Mentor individuals in recovery by reassuring individuals about the reality of the recovery process, promote personal empowerment, and set and achieve goals via a consumer developed recovery plan
- Coordinate and facilitate recovery related groups as needed to address symptoms and behaviors through processes that assist an individual
- Support development of Life Skills as needed such as budgeting, and connecting to community resources
- Model personal responsibility for recovery
- Teach skills to effectively navigate the health care delivery system to effectively and efficiently utilize services
- Assist with accessing and developing natural support systems in the community
- Promote coordination and linkage among providers
- Conduct outreach as needed
- Coordinate or assist in crisis interventions and stabilization as needed
- Attend an participate in treatment team, department and agency meetings as required
- Assist individuals in the development of empowerment skills through self-advocacy and activities that mitigate discrimination and inspire hope.
- Meet the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services and the Joint Commission standards for service delivery
- Complete required documentation and productivity requirements per agency policy.
- Participates on relevant committees; participates on Ohio MHAS Certified Peer Recovery Supporter Technical Assistance Calls.
- Peer Recovery Support Specialist should have an understanding of systems of care, natural support systems, entitlements and benefits, crisis response, medications, culture, trauma informed care, diversity competence, human trafficking, and peer recovery services.
- Peer Recovery Support Specialists will demonstrate knowledge of characteristics of populations served as it relates to symptoms, medications, culture, age, gender, sexual orientation and human development.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Must have the ability to effectively work with Agency employees, outside contacts, and a diverse client population
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Must have and maintain Ohio MHAS Certified Peer Recovery Support certification in good standing
- Must possess valid Ohio driver's license and a driving record that does not preclude the employee from being covered by Agency liability insurance.
- Must be able to pass an FBI/BCI background check
- Self-identifies as being in recovery from a mental illness or a substance use disorder.
- Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with consumers/ families.
- Travel and Schedule Expectations Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected for training purposes.
