Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Core Shed Manager to support on-site operations for one of our valued mining clients. The Core Shed Manager is responsible for overseeing all daily operations within the core shed, ensuring the efficient handling, processing, and documentation of drill core. This role plays a critical part in supporting geological programs by maintaining accurate sample integrity, ensuring data quality, and coordinating workflows between geology, drilling, and laboratory teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage all core shed activities, including receiving, organizing, logging, sampling, and shipping drill core
- Ensure proper core orientation, depth verification, and box labeling accuracy upon receipt from the drill site
- Supervise and participate in geological logging processes (lithology, alteration, mineralization, structure, etc.) to ensure consistency and adherence to company standards
- Manage sampling workflows, including sample selection, cutting/splitting, bagging, tagging, and preparation for laboratory submission
- Maintain strict QA/QC protocols (standards, blanks, duplicates) to ensure data integrity and compliance with project requirements
- Coordinate and schedule core processing activities to align with drilling progress and project deadlines
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of core inventory, sample tracking, chain-of-custody documentation, and shipments
- Oversee core photography and digital data management, ensuring proper storage and accessibility of records
- Collaborate closely with project geologists, drilling supervisors, and external labs to ensure smooth communication and workflow efficiency
- Train, mentor, and supervise core technicians and junior staff, ensuring proper techniques and safety procedures are followed
- Monitor inventory of supplies (sample bags, tags, cutting equipment, PPE, etc.) and manage procurement as needed
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient core shed environment that promotes productivity and safety
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance workflow efficiency and data accuracy
Qualifications
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or a related field preferred (or equivalent field experience)
- 3 years of experience in core handling, logging, or mineral exploration activities
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of geological logging practices, sampling protocols, and QA/QC standards
- Experience working in exploration or mining environments
- Proficiency with data management systems, logging software, and Microsoft Office
- Strong organizational skills with a high degree of attention to detail
